Kings and Generals video on Adal sucks

Oversimplifies the power dichotomy between Adal and Ethiopia before the war, Adal wasn’t just some happy vassal there was bunch of internecine battles and land conquered by Badlay and Jamal Ad Din remained Adalite until the Futuh. The last Sultan of Ifat was Sa’ad Ad Din not Sabr Ad Din as the Video claims. It lies about the founding of Adal there wasn’t a civil war between the Walashamas also the original capital of Adal was Dakar not Harar, Harar only become Capital after 1524 during the reign of Sultan Abu Bakr. He then makes up a fake sack of Zeila by Lebna Dengel. He claims fhere was a mass conversion of Somalis and Afars during the 16th century which blatantly false. He also supports the debunked Bruce theory that Adal only won early victories because of Ottoman Support even though there was no signifigant ottoman support before 1542. He Claims Imam Ahmed took power 1520 when he actually took power in 1527, The Imam would have been 14 in 1520, He labelled Gondar on the map despite the War being 100 years before the founding of Gondar. He could have easily substituted it for Dembiya which the Imam did use as his Capital when he settled down in Ethiopia. Dembiya and Gondar are also pretty much in the same place. Makes up something about Ahmad seeing himself of Negus of Ethiopia in a similar vein as Mehmed II and Rome, He Lies about ottoman support in Shimbra Kure, Inexplicably claims than Sennar and the entire Sultanate of Funj were Ethiopian, He even gives Khartoum to Ethiopia even though it wasn’t even founded until 1821 He makes up some bullshit about Emir Nur suing for peace after the Imams death to finish it off.

Exactly you've literally wrote what i had in mind. The video is misleading and relies heavily on his conjecture. He presumably relays on a single source that is to say the portuguese account without including the futuh which is also a primary source and a first hand account. The video isn't well researched and is very eurocentric treating the conflict as a side quest of the overall portuguese ottoman conflict, but again you'd expect this from youtubers pretending to be historians.

Worse he says Somalis only converted in the right before the Futuh
The guy is actually ass when it comes to anything africa. I could understand there isn't sources, but the Futuh is like the most well documented war in the region.

The guy had a whole book of a first hand account by the imams personal scribe but he decided to use Portuguese sources and his own innovations.

There’s a bunch more inaccuracies like how Mahfouz wasn’t sultan, Turkish murtad gave the Ethiopians cannons at Amba Geshen not Aksum, It implies the Ethiopians were outnumbered at Shimbra Kure and other battles, It claims the central highlands were under Ethiopia and on the map highlight Sudanese territory as Ethiopian, both of these are lies, It lies about ottoman muskets being crucial crucial even though there is no evidence of heavy ottoman support in the early years. Fun fact there are records of Lebna Dengel buying Turkish firearms not the other way around ironically enough.
By about 1520 a small trade in matcholcks was beginning to develop in the Red Sea.
“According to Alvares, the chaplain to the Portuguese embassy of 1520, Lebnä-Dengel had bought these few firearms from Turkish merchants trading in Ethiopia.”

Portuguese sources don’t even mention the period before the Futuh meaning he just lied blatantly about Mahfouz and everything before the Futuh also he put Gondar and Khartoum on the map before they were even founded and explicable gave Khartoum and the entir sultanate of funj to Ethiopia.

Despite funj being one of the most important, largest states of Sudanese history and ethiopia being a kingdom on top the Highlands with some vassles in some of its immediate lowlands.

How the hell could a sultanate in Sudan be a part of ethiopia?

There were some historical inaccuracies in the video, but you also displayed a couple of dishonest statements. The Adal offensive and initial success were cut short when Zara Yaeqob defeated and killed Ahmad Badlay in Dawaro at the battle of Aifars.

There was an intense power struggle between Garad Ahmad and Sultan Abubakr. A section of the force loyal to Abun, led by Garad Ahmad, rebelled and took refuge in Hubat, the heartland of the Harla people. Sultan Abubakr was disliked and opposed by the majority of the Harla and Adare people.

Zeila was sacked and burned by the Portuguese in 1516. Lebna Dengel killed Mahfuz in 1516 and, in coordination with the Portuguese, helped eliminate the Muslim threat to the Solomomic dynasty. Dawit I also sacked the port of Zeila in 1403. I think the king and generals were referring to Dawit's brutal expedition that pursued Sa’ad-adDin all the way to the port of Zeila. He got the chronological order wrong.

The vast majority of Somali nomads converted to Islam sometime in the late 15th century. Al Umari mentions that Islam did not seem to have gone deep into the cultural life of the Cushitic people. Most of the Muslim rulers seem to have been Semitic speakers who were Muslims in their customs, names, titles, and religion.

Imam Ahmed had a close and strong relationship with the Sultan of Yemen. The Sultan of Yemen provided Imam Ahmed with firearms. The firearms provided by the Arab mercenaries provided an additional weapon that the Muslim force had lacked in the previous wars.

A strong and vibrant Arab population resided in Harar. These migrants came primarily from the Hadrawmat area and also from Yemen and Hijaz. They had their greatest influence in Harar, by then an established Islamic center of learning and the only urban diffusion point for Islam in Adal during the medieval period. They played a significant role in the battle of Shimbure Kure. The Arabs fueled the ideological base for Jihad against Abyssinia.

There was a power struggle between Amir Nur and the Walasma Sultan supported by the mercantile class. The mercantile class always tended to stress the need to play down the jihadic line which only brought ruin to commerce. Amir Nur wanted to continue the Jihad. King and generals got it mixed up. He meant to say the walashma sultan supported by the mercantile class wanted peace. Amir Nur wasn't Somali. He came from the Harla hereditary landed nobility.

The Muslim rulers gave gifts to maintain friendly relations and to avoid the anger of the Christian kings. Many Muslim merchants gave gifts to Christian kings in return for protection. This was documented by Al Umari.

You just went completely off topic this isn’t about the ethnicity of the Imam or Emir Nur. It’s about the use of Firearms during the conquest. Stop being disruptive and stick to the Topic at hand.
Also could you try not to be a liar at least once. Merid Wolde Aregay throughly debunks the idea of Adam have a strong reliance on firearms in the earlier years of the conquest.
“Although Brace's explanation still retains its attractiveness, a careful examination of relations between Turkey and the Red Sea ports of Yemen shows that Adal did not, before 1539, receive a substantial number of matchlock or artillery pieces from Turkey orany other country”

Al Umari never personally visited the region and got most of his information second hand not a valid source

It may be used as a source in some desperate cases but against a personal eye witness account of one of the best travellers of the medieval era ibn battuta. There's nothing you can pull out.
