Why do we do this? With public/semi-public Somali figures rumours are spread that their dead and then they have to release a video confirming that they are alive.

It also happens at a community level. My friend had a family member sick (critical condition) and people would call to give condolences and say an advanced-Allah naxaristo and go on to tell others of their demise assuming that due to their condition that there is/was no hope.

Yes, I do remember seeing some of those, at this point I don't even bother clicking if the image looks suspect.

I was reading this blog about the woman on the 1000 shilling bank note which linked me to a vague article on hiiraan saying she died due to a mysterious illness, it also tries to draw parralels between her death and the decline of Somali currency. Theres something off about the wording, I wonder if someone made it up.

Looks like they wrote that piece for the sake of it. Why are they making it seem like the Somali currency stood a chance against the dollar? Even before the civil war?

Sounds superstitious bs.

If you are on fb, you'll always see pictures of innocent girls with articles that have titles like "daawo gabadh somali ah oo samaysay dhaqan xumo" lol

Whattttt?! That's awful. Are u in Canada by any chance? Maybe they've become too accustomed to losing ppl in certain communities bc I've never see that happen here.

This was back home, the person was elderly so there wasn't that factor of being used to gun violence though I wouldn't be surprised if it was done in that example as well.
