I don't think AS fighter themselves expected to win, if they knew they were winning they would press but they were so fucking cautious and stayed on the fringes watching to see what the SNA would do.

This isn't the first time I've seen SNA soldiers running away haphazardly from alshabab. They run away because they don't really care about winning. Most of these guys joined the army to "live", not die. That's why Macawiisleey have been more successful in battle.

There is no military solution because the problem is one of governance not ideology. The FGS will keep running around in circles if they keep on this course. Most people don't understand why Al-Shabaab exists in Somalia of 2025. It is not due to ideology.

Let's examine where FGS has been successful at eradicating Al-Shabaab presence. Places like Nuurduugle, Wargaadi, M.Caligaduud, Ceeldheer, Xarardheere. What do all these places have in common? They sit on the land known as Deex. Their lifestyle is primarily pastoralism(Reer Guura). And these towns exist only for trade or provide access to markets. With better roads. Further urbanization could take place providing relief to Xamar.

5-8 months a year the population of these regions spend their their time here on the coastal plain.

To these groups AL-Shabaab offers nothing and will never exert any control over them. That's why FGS and FMS were able to fill AL-Shabaab role so fast and effectively. Specially Galmudug has done well consolidating and providing services to Xarardheere and Ceeldheer.

Now let's examine where has Al-Shabaab succeeded to stay in control. Places like these(not necessarily the places shown). Places like Galcad, Adan Yabal, Galhareeri, Ceelbuur etc.

Here people are primarily settled Agropastoralist(Xoolodhaqato) or outright Beeraley.

You can't have similar approach when it comes to these regions. You could shoot all you want, you will simply run circles. Leading to a decades long conflict.

It would be far easier to understand why you are failing in places where there are settled communities. And that is because FGS and FMSs are not willing(really not capable) to meet simplest of requirements at the local level. Which is to provide security and representation. Forget education, development, roads, access to markets etc.

If FGS can't reform and become the driving force building decentralized institutions at the local level there is no future for Federalism. I mean you can't have a top down approach forming FMS and stop there. You either allow people to form FMSs from bottom up or see to the end, that basic governance requirements are met at the local level. Because there is huge disconnection between most of these paper states and the real people

Halfway approach only leads to displacement and non state actors filling the vacuum. It never sees to amaze me how Somalis are always taking the easy way, which in this case is shooting.

I was reminded during ICU days they sent around 30 fighters on 2 vehicles to confront an army of pirates around the coast during the height of piracy, 300 pirates heavily armed highly organised, battle hardened.

These guys were no cowards regularly hijacking ships as far as 300 miles from the coast getting machine gunned regularly by international task force, they had 30 technicals.

Yet they all went into hiding in the hawd and couldn't be found when just two technicals with 30 ICU fighters from the same sub clan showed up in town specifically looking for them, piracy came to a brief end during that reign.

Reminds me of the verse in surah Anfal, when Allah says 10 determined believers will easily overcome 100 disbelievers, and 100 determined ones will overcome 1000 (1:10 ratio)

There is no other explanation other than Allah casting terror into their hearts that drove them into the jungle.

Al-Shabaab will retreat into the bushes. Wait until the locals become frustrated with undisciplined SNA. And then strike with the assistance of the locals. Something needs to change, the current approach is unsustainable.

Ofcourse not, but if a khawariij invades one of my towns I see that as an opportunity to earn jannah and fulfill the sunnah and will fight to death, the morale changes and the khawariij knows it.

The same with a legit islamic government, only difference is that I would be hunting them down offensively not just playing defense.
