Kenya and most African countries have weak governments and hardly have the diplomatic muscles to make shit happen in China to help their expats. The Chinese in Africa get treated well, for now, and eventually it'll be common knowledge on how Africans are treated out there. Those weak governments will have very little power in controlling public opinion and backlash. And the baakthis deserve it
