The British establishment still acts as if it controls Kenya, and they do to a certain extent. The rape of Kenyan women by British forces in the Nyanyuki area has also been pretty well-documented. The problem lies in the disconnect between average Kenyans and those in power. I think it is a tribalized system in Kenya that the British establishment exploits to its own advantage.

Let us not forget Robert Mugabe tried to do a land redistribution in Zimbabwe. The UK - through its European and American allies - imposed the most restrictive sanctions on the country to the point where millions of Zimbabweans had to flee that resource-rich country.

Kenyans are not lost in this reality, so they let the British monarchy own those huge tracts of land. The Kenyan elites are also trained through the UK, and the upper class in Kenya mimics their British counterpart. It is what it is.

My earlier point was to sympathize with the Kenyan police officer. Had he pushed back against that Western tourist, the police department could've fired him, and he could've been destitute. The unemployment in Kenya is extremely high for a stable country like Kenya. This reality makes people accept a situation that their conscience would not allow them to in the real world.

I just don't like when we (Somalis) generalize Kenyans. In Kenya, only one group scapegoats the Somalis: The Central Kenyans (Kikuyu, Meru, etc). You hardly find the Nilotes (i.e., Kales, Luos, Masai, Samburu, Turkana, Bakots, and coastal communities) complaining about us. The Somali tribe is one of the tribes in Kenya. We need to focus on the ones that escapegoats us (Somalis) and leave the rest of the Kenyans alone.


As for the mercenaries in the Halane camp, it is us (Somalis) who put Somalia in that horrible situation. I am a believer that until we come out of that hole, we are in no position to diss other Africans, especially those in our neighborhood who hosted millions of our refugees in their country. Kenya is our second home, and no other nation welcomed us more than the Kenyans. We should keep that in mind and stop responding to every troll who takes shots at us. I want my Somali community to keep an eye on the bigger picture.
