Kenyan Somalis invest in Mogadisho

Everytime I stumble on a video in Kenya where its successful Somali businesses, there's always xasid Kenyans sayin "Why dont they invest in their country instead"

Since Finance minister Bihi introduced the Public private partnership bill in august 2024, three big PPP projects have surfaced last year, this is the first one the New Mogadishu Development Corporation (NMDC) which is the company that is working on the new airport 35kms outside Mogadishu in warsheikh, a big road will be built connecting the city to the airport but in between they plan on building a special economic zone (SEZ) with a new sea-port, the port and the airport will be bigger than the turkish run aden cade airport and port in mogadishu today

Apparently the Ministry of civil aviation was receiving numerous requests from major airlines that wished to start flying into Mogadishu but couldn't because the current airport is too small and congested

The new airport will have 5 times more capacity than the current one at aden cadde, also notice how they're investing into modern cargo terminals, maybe if they stick to their promise and relaunch somali airlines, they could have a somali cargo branch of the airline just like ethiopian airlines, convieniently the port and Sez are right next to the airport

They also plan on investing in a big solar farm to power the SEZ and its going to be operational by 2027

On the inauguration of the project the top 100 somali companies in the whole region were attending, including the ones from Kenya

If this goes well, it wouldnt be crazy to assume this new Somali construction company could work on other mega projects

Its safe to say that most of the project should start being in the end phases by the end of 2027 and fully operational by 2029

In parralel to this project they plan on building trade corridors going into ethiopia and kenya like the berbera trade corridor, they also announced that they would try and get similar ppp projects to build smaller ports at kismayo, berawa and hobyo, only port town being left out is marka and it should stay that way tbh

New regional airports also being built at dhusamareb, it has already started theres videos of them paving the runway

Only thing keeping all this from happening is shabab and madobe tbh

If they built it right outside Muqdisho the city would probably expand to it eventually making it harder to expand the airport and build new terminals and runways, this is the problem with aden cade it cant be expanded because its surrounded by private property

If you travel a lot you'll notice most big airports in the world are built outside the city and you have to drive some time before reaching the city

Washeikh is a village with around 100 houses, all the stuff will probably be built a few kms from the village and the villagers will probably benefit from this since they will be connected to the region by the road that will be built

My bet is that its in the vicinity of Warsheikh but not close enough that you can hear anything probably
After you leave warshiekh theres so many different towns and so many different villages nearby. Icl they picked the worst location for it. Warshiekh can be a tourist destination without having a f*ck off airport there

Its okay all these villages can be destroyed, for the sake of civil aviation inshallah
