We’ve seen the west working in Somalia and it’s not to our benefit. It was foolish to think the people that ordered ETH to attack in 2006 would be on our side. It’s always US firms that are attempting seizure of Somali assets and our airspace. They lobby for secessionists, while parading “one Somalia”. Nonsense to stay with them.

The ICU at least had a plan beyond the civil war. Another harsh truth is that we wouldn’t have AS without the west, they were a minority within ICU and grew in number after ICU was no longer operational. Foreign presence in Somalia ballooned their numbers.
The thing is that the ICU controlled the south of Somalia by fear and intimidation also they wanted to invade puntland and eventually Somaliland and incorporate them into their government by force that was their plan.

Centralization was the answer so they were on the right track at the time. Attacking peaceful regions would be the biggest issue. Japan and China who both had FMS and qabil united from one region conquering the rest. At the time we were under an agreed 1960 union. A union through force of unification is much harder to break. It’s not about what qabil or region ICU are from, as long as they remained focused on one Somalia, the rest would fall in line after much sacrifice .
