Kenya is desperate to pay off staggering debt. Its workers are paying the price

100B in debts for flashy projects. Had they use that 100B on manufacturing. Their GDP would be double of
The fact that this is a problem that every African country seems to suffer from. Shows that there doesn't seem to be any easy solutions.

That's why I tell all the naysayers you better hope your wrong that somalia doesn't have oil or we will probably run into similar problems.

I agree but this whole system needs to be reformed. Or that money will be looted. Somali leaders aren’t smart with loans. Hopefully oil will be found.

Bad governance and oil is a recipe for disaster

There is still a huge gap between developing countries and developed countries the island of Hawaii has a larger gdp and gdp per capita than Kenya which is just crazy in my opinion

You kinda need capital in order to have better education. Better leadership. Somalis backhome have low exceptations. Security, 3 meals a day, to have the freedom to do business without overtaxation. Somalia currently has as same per capita than Nigeria does.

In many places in Africa the people are educated you will see taxi drivers who have a economics degree or a degree in computer science

Somalia has a small population and a lot of oil with the right leader they easily could be Norway

Our population is 20m. Which is set to double. After that TFR will slow down to 2-3. Even if they reform i dont see it becoming Norway. Norway became Norway because of their mentality+culture. But hey only time can tell. If they get rid of the danyeers that are apart of 4.5 tribal democracy. Then sure

The leader is nothing without a strong and incorruptible bureaucracy. And Somalias government ministries are stacked by people who wish to profit from their post. “Eating good at the table” mentality which is common in the south.

in short it’s not a symptom of HSMs rule or anything it’s just how people from the south view government. Compare that to the Somalis from the north or the west and you see a massive mentality divide.
