Adal was a Muslim state (Somali dominated) with various clans in it including Daroods who fought and contributed to those conquests and the state. Abyssinia only ruled a portion of the Habesha highlands, no Somali clan was under their hegemony until the 1800s when the Brits armed them and blocked Somali ports.
