Just saw The Master (2012)

Been there, done that
The first time I saw The Master I thought that it had great acting and was interesting to follow such a despicable character, but I didn't see much value in the film. There were many things going on, yet it felt really empty. Its critics about scientology felt pretty shallow to me, 'scientology BAD' is what I thought the movie was all about

Then just like most of PTA's work the second time I saw it I finally discovered what was so emotionally compelling that I couldn't see the first time.

More than anything else, I always found the film to be immensely impressive for its raw, almost elemental portrayal of longing and desire for belonging, and man's search for meaning. I've also noticed some of the underlying ideas swirling around about Freddie's impotence, and how everything that happens in the film is in service of his own sexual frustrations.

Obeying and taming is also a large part of the film's narrative and made me realize no matter who you are, you will always bow down and be controlled by a master, it could be your Boss, Teacher, Parent, Government, Religion, Money, Sex etc these are all exterior things which oversee our behavior, control our action and shape our future

Here's a quote from the movie by a character ironically referred to as The Master

"if you figure out a way to live without serving a master, any master, then let the rest of us know, will you? For you'd be the first person in the history of the world"

What an amazing piece of film art by Mudane PTA, one the greatest directors/writers of our generation

I haven't seen the master myself but it seems interesting from reading your review of it. Noticed that you are really into movies, so let me recommend another great movie that I know you haven't seen.

Here you are sxb. The film is called Masquerade, it's Korean flick but not fruity fruity at all, not that shit girls like. It's a golden comedy about a doppelganger that ends up replacing the emperor of then Korean and ends up taking the emperors queen and country for himself just by how much more likable he is. It left quite a bit of an impression on me and I really recommend it.

Thanks for suggestion sxb, I like movies cause it's the best form of expression, every film has a message to tell and conveys its dialogue through subtexts and interesting cinematography techniques, it has always been an obsession of mine

We need you to grow up to be the best Somali filmmaker and do us all proud. Here is the trailer for that film

Haha thats a dream of mine

Looks great! But I avoid trailers cause I like going into a movie blindly with as little info on It as possible, I did the same thing with Parasite and it was an amazing experience, being fully immersed in their world and invested in these characters, just sitting back and letting the movie take you for a ride with no prior knowledge whatsoever is a euphoric feeling.

The quote is flawed.

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

I haven't seen the master but I'm a big fan of Joaquin Phoenix, his raw acting talent compels me to watch his movies. The actor should lose himself in the character and Joaquin is that kinda actor. Pure talent. I wll consider watching the Master in the nearby future inshallah.

This is one of his best ever performances, like with Joker (2019) and Her (2013)
Serving a master? Some people have lived by themselves in rural areas or isolated from urban centers. Do these people if alone have a master let's say they are irreligious?
If you watch the movie you'll notice that Joaquin's character Freddie is sort of like who you just described, irreligeous and leads a life of solitude, but yet he still serves a master, which is his addiction to alcohol and women, those short term pleasures are his Master and you'll see him reluctantly obeying

There will always be a master
