Judge reverses Somali mans deportation after confusing his clan with Hawaii

that’s actually bullshit somalis in oromo region are prosecuted for being somali its well known and the oromos are encroaching on somali region and mustafá does nothing

Lets say that is true he gets prosecuted in the Oromia region, you would just go to the Somali region. You wouldn't go all the way to the UK to claim asylum.

And also you just have to look at the numbers almost no Somali from the Somali region claims asylum in European countries/UK.

That's definitely an Ethiopian. They would study Somali clan names and culture so they can pass the asylum interviews and make up stories to sound convincing.

@Barkhadle1520 come look at this.
To play devil's advocate, didn't Somalis also pass themselves off as Ethiopian, Kenyan and Tanzanian back in the 90s and 2000s in order to migrate? I doubt the Somali passport was worth much.

At the end of the day, othee Africans like Somalis will do anything to escape dangerous or desperate situations so claiming other identities is a thing.

Using a passport to travel to a destination country is not passing off as them. Somalis never claimed other ethnicities on their refugee forms.

Not quite. The reality is that asylum isn’t granted based on the value of a passport it’s granted based on fleeing war, persecution, or serious human rights violations under international law (specifically the 1951 Refugee Convention).

In the case of Somalis, many were granted asylum in the '90s and 2000s precisely because Somalia was in a state of active civil war, and returning them would’ve violated international protections like non-refoulement which prevents countries from deporting people to places where they’re at risk of harm.

That’s also why you’ve seen a reverse pattern among other Africans who falsely claim to be from conflict zones not because they identify with that nationality, but because conflict gives them legal grounds to avoid deportation and have their applications accepted. It’s less about national identity and more about exploiting gaps in the asylum system to escape difficult conditions.

Is that why Africans choose to go with Somalia when seeking asylum? Somalia's name is still infamous in asylum systems?

They also claim Eritrean. Other Middle Easterners or North Africans for example claim Syrian.

It's because they are registered as areas that are either in conflict or are facing persecution or human rights abuses and that will get you a high acceptance rate if you claim asylum and it will also prevent you from being deported.

So when you see Eritreans and Syrians and some nationalities being over-represented in certain stats alongside Somalis is because of that reason , other nationalities get added to theirs. So it becomes inflated.

Do you and @Zak12 not understand the point of ''assylum'' or what is in the first place? No one claims assylum when they can live saffely in their homeland

Also. Ethiopia was worse than Somalia in the 90s and 2000s btw and the mengistu regime collapsed at the same time as mass starvation was happening but also you had just cross regional ethnic based violence during TPLF era.

1991 -2007 From 1991 to 2007 over 2.5M Amhara were killed. Between 2014-2018 tens of thousands of Amhara died.

25.000 -50.000 Oromos were detained and killed and 300.000 detained , lands burned torture etc.

I know but claiming somali to get to a western at that time was guaranteed why would a somali claim those other ethnicities?

No Somalis never did this.

It makes no sense. In the 90s and 00s; being Somali was automatically a reason for asylum to be granted.

Whilst Tanzanian and Kenya was not.

So its the other way round. Tanzanian and Ethiopians pretending to be Somali.
