Hawiye were allied with Siad Barre until 1988. Just because MJ stopped fighting doesn’t mean they were allied, siad barre was massacring their civilians for revenge, so they decided to preserve the lives of their innocent people by putting down the gun.
Hawiye already has splintered by early 80s. Saleebaan were fighting across present day Galmudug by that time, way before 88. If you mean when Sacad and Cayr joined that was a bit later than Saleeban but refused to go fight on behalf of Barre and invade MJ. Only to be invaded by them as we approached Xamar, from our flank.

Regardless how are you meant to blame the disintegration on USC when you had a genocidal dictator that by the time he fell not a single qabiil could trust their neighbours

When did Abgaal join the fight? they were breaking bread with barre until nearly the end. Nobody is to blame but the USC. Even if they wanted to xoog the country and become the next dictatorship i wouldn’t have been against it as long as there was no discrimination of innocent civilians based on tribalism.

Said Barre left Mogadishu in a tank all that pride and glory just to be told that his " red cap special forces" suffered humiliated defeats and that USC was on its way to XAMAR , USC stayed and fought even after Said Barre tried to Counter Attack along with the back up of his son in Law Morgan " Heavy weapons and tanks " they came from Afgooye Side. USC ambushed them and chased them all the way into Kismayo.

Here is Aideed wishing for Clans to unite and work together, even thanking Somaliland fighters in the north for doing their part in the war against Said Barre.

Aideed was declared President, then Ali Mahdi ran to the international community and claimed that he was the President thus kicking off a USC HG vs USC Abgal which started the " 4 billiod " 4 month war where bullets rained for 4 months non stop, the amount of Gun men killed on both side was over 40,000. USC lost its best fighters during those times.

You had Xawaadle doing sneak attacks assisting Abgal near the airport till UNC HG turned on them and kicked them out of the airport " specifically EYR and Salebaan "

You had Mursade playing both sides and attacking both Abgal and HG, UNC Salebaan alone took out Mursade and made them flee.

UNC Salebaan and UNC EYR controlled the Sea Port, Airport, Xamar Wayne, until the Green line shangaani.

UNC Sa'ad controlled the Presidential Palace, Hodon, K4, Banadir.

People Like Ali Mahdi and Osman Ato were cancers in UNC and wanted to gain Money. Ali Mahdi worked with the Mafia to put Nuclear waste in our waters and Ato was controlling the Khat making millions. They undermined Aideed and plunged us into another Civil war after we got rid of Said Barre.

Aideed Should be came President and then Ali Mahdi, Since it was Aideed's forces who fought Said Barre the hardest. Aideed's UNC controlled the Sea Port, AirPort, Presidential Palace, ect. But that never happened UNC was sabotaged and split up from the inside. Somalia had a great opportunity but We saw what occurred.

26 January should’ve been Somalias freedom day.

But what happened afterwards has made it a day of infamy, sparking an era that saw more blood spilled in our nation than ever before.

I sincerely pray that Barre and Aideed rest in piss both in the present and in the hereafter ameen.

AUN Ali Mahdi acknowledged his mistakes later on. Unfortunately history tends to be painful.

Let’s be honest USC was tripped up immediately when Mahdi was elected in a day to stop Aidiid. There needed to be a long process where everyone was brought together and then agree on a transitional government, the framework of the new state. The moment USC picked its leader without other rebels, it was over. Everyone broke away and the warlord era began.
I feel for Caydiid, militarily he did the heavy lifting for the USC but tbh the greater faction would not accept a HG ruling them in Banaadir. In my opinion, a USC civ war was inevitable. Similar to how many other groups in Somalia splintered among themselves.

Aided had no place to be the president of Somalia. The men who founded, funded and organised USC chose Cali Mahdi as the chairman. He should've stuck to doing his part. Caydiid had only one job and that was to kill Siad and pacify the Daaroods. We had 21 years of a military rule no one wanted another Siad like era. We didn't fetch him from his cosy office job to lead a country.

By the way Caydiid didn't even want to be the chairman of USC. After the two founders of USC, Cali Wardhiigley and Ismaaciil Jimcaale Cosoble died the position was fought over between Cali Mahdi and another Harti Abgaal man, Sheikh Gabyow who wrote the 60s constitution. Caydiid wanted to be the Head of USC SNA. A position USC council gave to Cali Shide a high ranking reer Nimcaale General. Cali Mahdi's first decision was to override this and he appointed the popular Caydiid for the position. Ina Shide said if you give this man( Caydiid) what he wants there won't be peace on this land. How true it became.

I believe any Somali that supported USC or Barre had no right to flee Somalia.

If you support the violence, go take part in it.
Barre didnt leave Somalia and fled to Zimbabwe like Mengistu did. The guy hoarded big junk of the country's heavy artillery and set up a base in Jubbooyinka. He was waiting to strike back and more conflict was inevitable.

You say pacify Darood as if Mahdi didn’t invite them and get double crossed forcing Aidiid to return and kick them out of Afgoye.

Mahdi made many mistakes. He was a terrible strategist for starters. Aidiid would’ve even accepted not leading Somalia had the USC, SNM, Darood rebel groups all formed a government and an election for a new consensus leader happened. Mahdi however wanted the presidency without anyone else’s involved and the moment that happened SNM pulled out and it turned into all splintering.

I can’t believe anyone who’s a neutral can’t see that the moment Mahdi was declared president day one was the day we went from a rebel vs regime and into a civil war.

I agree, he was a selfish coward and didn’t have the basic decency that Mengistu showed by fleeing.

However, the anarchy started the minute USC failed to form a government.

Up until then, the situation seemed salvageable but from then on, we reached a point of no return.

USC succeeded in their goal. Anything after can’t be blamed on them as wars are unpredictable and the group splintered. No more corrupt communism, we are free capitalist country. Everyone can enterprise

Today Xamar has a higher living standard than the regime which built nothing but stole all the property and wealth of the country. Most of the nice buildings you see of Xamar was left by the Italians.
“Anything after can’t be blamed on them”

Yes it can as they partook in Somalia’s further destruction after the filthy dictator has been removed. Bro It’s 2023 CE/1444 AH, it’s time to be a little unbiased instead of white-washing the brutality of war-criminals and their evil destructive legacy.

Although to be fair, most Somalis hating on USC do not hate them for any correct reason (ethical or religious reasons), they hate them for petty tribal reasons.

You can invite people to have talks while also pacifying them. I do agree Cali Mahdi made many mistakes his gravest mistake was naming Caydiid as head of the military. But all the mistakes Cali Mahdi made was overshadowed by the sensless killing orchestrated by the man with no mandate.

Caydiid was not elected to be the chairman and he also started afarta bilood when his troops looted, raped killed the shacab in Suuqa dhexe ee Siigaale. You can call out Cali Mahdi on what you think are his ill adviced policies but it was only one guy who started the anarchy and it was Caydiid going against the organisation he worked for on behalf of disgruntled SNM who felt they were betrayed. These are facts most of my family witnessed it themselves in Siigaale. They were present well connected people and saw it all.

Siad Barre’s presidential brigade, Tried to come back, they made a big counter attack and Failed, UNC's Aideed forces killed them and captured their heavy weapons causing most of them to run back to the Jubbas.

The Red Berets under Morgan or Said Barre was responsible for civilian executions in and around Mogadishu. In one incident, the Red Berets killed 100 civilians gathered in a stadium.[xx] In another incident in Buli Burti, the Red Berets killed fifty unarmed civilians (most were prominent locals such al elected officials, clan elders, and Islamic leaders) in retaliation for a USC attack on SAF troops. " Because they lost in the battle field they turned around and killed women and children like the cowards they are.

The SNF under General Morgan and SPM under Colonel Omar Jess battled over the port area around Kismayo.

SNF committed atrocities against civilian populations in the Gedo region, Yountoy and Bulo-Gadud, north of Kismayo, Somalia Amnesty International recorded the testimony of survivors, who described tactics that included massacres of up to thirty or forty people at a time, cutting off and burning of body parts with acid, and the widespread use of rape.

Morgan his GOONS drove around the Jubbas ruthlessly killing people. Im glad UNC Kept these Animals at bay, who knows what kind of killing or rape they would of committed if they were allowed to return. You can see in the video they kill a man put a gun on him and them debate like animals if he is HG or MX.

USC did form a government Cali Mahdi as its head and some Isaaq guy I can't remember his name, as pm. The fall out between Cali Mahdi and Caydiid was about how to handle the dictator camping in Jubbooyinka. Caydiid wanted to go after Barre and finish him off and form a government with SNM and SPM. While Cali Mahdi wanted to prioritise the state building and form a government comprised of civilians not military personnel. If Barre left the country the USC fall out was highly unlikely since there was no existential threat to the government and thus no support for Caydiid.

That could very well be true but let me say this.

The first thing you should discuss when forming a group like USC should be “hey, when we actually get rid of this dictator, what are we gonna do with him??”

The fact they didn’t even foresee Barre camping out in the countryside when they planned their revolution says a lot.

It was a calculated move on Barres behalf, he wanted all the factions to hate and be highly suspicious of eachother, if the factions weaken one another he could steam roll back. Thus his troop went on to kill Hawiye civilians in Kismaayo, Baidhoba and Lower Shabelle. Making the war clan based.

If only we could've avoided the vicious cycle and not take his bait. There was an incident where hundreds of Galgala civilians were massacred because of the thousands they killed under Barre, I guess 21 years of state sponsored secularism erodes spirituality. Truly an evil plot from Barre and his loyalists.

USC had iron tight leadership, the organisation had two semi young guys who were adored by all. No one saw both of the founders dying in less then a year. Imagine EPRDF without Mengistu? After 20 years of his leadership they fell apart in less than 7 years. Unpredictable things happen, the whole civil war was a cycle of unpredictable shitshow.

There's really no higher form of freedom than total anarchy so in a way you can call it Somali Freedom Day in the literal sense.
