Atheists and anti religion people like to claim that islam, and religion in general is by nature violent, and that islam has killed more people in the world than any other ideology, religion, or any collective thought with power.
The people who claim such statements, usually do it with the popular quran verses in surah Tawbah (repentance), such as
( and when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them, besiege them, and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them (go on) their way. Indeed allah is forgiving and merciful)
And they usually (deliberately) leave out the last part, to make their argument seem stronger, and more truthful. What they dont understand is that this whole Chapter has a context, a certain circumstance, this verse didn't just come down with out the blue.
I dont want to come with the whole context, but im going to short say that after several battles with the pagans of both mecca and madinah, the muslims in madinah and the forces of Prophet Muhammad (saws) agreed to a peace treaty, called the Hudaibiyyah peace treaty, but after breaking it several times, and breaking several other peace treaties, encouraging violence against the muslims, this verse came down, and it was refferred to these specific criminal leaders of the pagan tribes, who kept breaking the treaty. Not non violent peaceful pagans, in madinah. There is actually clear ijma (consesus) that Jihad cannot be exerted against non-combatant people.
The pagans were actually given mercy described in the first verse of surah tawbah, when they at the end lost the war, and the sword was at their neck, they were given 4 months to decide what the conclusion should be, and they expelled of madinah, and it was said to them that if they (criminal pagan leaders) came back to madinah, they would be met with war (from the muslims).
But atheists like to claim islam is a violent religion, but what they forget is that if they dont see islam or religion as the truth, then they must see the theory of evolution as the truth, what should they believe in else?
The theory of evolution is actually the ideology that has a violent and bloody basis. The theory of natural selection, and the theory of "the survival of the fittest", all of these theories are in fact the violent ones. Because if man isn't fighting for survival, then how would natural selection and survival of the fittest be relevant in humans? If we aren't constantly fighting each other, and finding advanced ways to kill other races, then how would the "strongest gene" be preserved, and how would other "inferior races" be exterminated?
The answer is that man should according to theory of evolution, have an advantage by striking first, undermine other races , and act like savages.
And history shows us that atheist ruled, or countries with leaders who were inspired by the theory of evolution have done exactly that. Lenin once religious, was inspired by darwinism, and under his lead 1.500.000 million people were killed, and 1.6 million people were injured in the russian civil war. And that was only the russian civil war...
