2 out of the three last presidential terms were held by UPD party .

The last 3 Pm were part of UPD party

No doubt president HSM is the undisputed godfather of somali politics .


Is there any other party with more clout then UPD ?

Even in 2020 Galmudug elections UPD should’ve won. I’m sure with no interference they’ll be back.

Every time you heard ‘opposition’ in the Farmaajo years they were UPD. Hassan Sheikh is the godfather of Somali politics. Even once he retires we’ll see many UPD victories

I do not know enough about HS but wouldn’t it be a mistake to back for UPD to back Sanbaloolshe which is the rumour for a while now. The success of UPD has been to bring in new qualified faces. Rooble, Kheyre, even Hassan himself when he came out of nowhere to win, Odowaa, Hamza Barre etc are all highly qualified individuals but young faces.

I never liked the switching of political parties to win elections, homegrown is the way to go.

UPD is definitely has the most clout but Himilo Qaran has the public on the ground. Banaadir public at least as you know. When they have a function its always shut down so we're looking forward. 1m1v for the banaadir governatore. New faces is a must.

I agree Abdulkadir Cosoble should give up and disband his party but he still got more votes than AAW so

Soon supporting individual politicians will be over so everybody need to get behind a party tbh

Upd is HSM party , the coalition your talking about was started by shareefka party himilo qaran .
Upd was part of that coalition ,for a short time even professor gaas was also part of it the midowga xisbiyada .

HSM and the whole Somali political arena since the civil war is garbage, corrupt and rotten. The closest thing to stability/progress (although not perfect) was the ICU until of course, Melez and his lackeys illegally removed them from power and terrorized the people, leading to Al-Shabab’s rise, Amisom/KDF/Ethiopian colonization which led to the banana republic we have today.

UPD has potential but lets see if XSM is competent. Im really disappointed Rooble didnt run. UPD can install loyalists in KG/HS/GM and negotiate good relations with JL. Bribe fugitives from JSL. Deni is a former DamJadiidist so Aaran Joon might might join UDP or they might join opposition but it will be hard to bribe PL MPs if they become opposition but PL MPs would be just as irrelevant as JSL fugitive MPs are to FGS/KG/HS/JL/GM politics so if I was an Aaran Jaan MP I would ask for a bribe to jooin UDP as long XSM doesnt attack PL I need to point out that XSM/Xamze dont need to bribe easternSool/Badhan MPs of JSL even though they were appointed by AaranJaan. They would work without MP salary if you promise them that JSL will be reconquered by SNS. Someday. XSM/Madoobe can succeed where MrCheese failed, winning 2 consecutive boobka elections in Somalia Italiana

Somalia was a country without effective government, ruled by backward tribal warlords and your average Somali living under widespread fear and brutality. The ICU chased the warlords out, brought stability to central and southern Somalia and gained popular support.
