When I was in elementary we used a browser Netscape. By the late 90s we had dial up and it used to take forever to download emulators for bootleg games. MSN messenger was our version of Whatsapp. Search Engines - Altavista prior to Google. It was clearly inefficient. I used Google since 2002/03. There were other search engines. I would say perception of time was slower. There was greater concentration. Before Facebook there were other Social networking sites such as Hi5. Facebook started when I was in Uni and so did YouTube. It was a barren wasteland with no content until the late 00s.
