Is Somali ethno-religious group?

If Somali is an ethno-religious group, why get upset when Oromos claim be Somali?? Especially since they are probably the closest to us genetically. Why do we gatekeep Somalinimo so hard? If it's a community based on Islam?

Because the truth is, Somalis are a large family, that hail from a single male ancestor some 2800 years ago, and thus Somali, is a very real ethnic group. This man's descendants then splintered into different major clans, and that's what Somalia is made up of, for the most part. Even when we splintered off into different clans, there was always an understanding of the over-arching 'Somalinimo'. If it wasn't for the flawed origin stories, we would have been an even stronger ethnic groups, identity wise, but here we are.

Islam doesn't make you an ex-son/daughter of your father, so why would it make you leave your ethnic group?

Leading on from my previous post, is it true that apostates in Islam, have to be killed?

If yes, that would make them a dead person, but again, that cannot remove their genetic makeup. It just means they are a Kaafir-Somali or a dead Kaafir-Somali.

If they want to revert back to Somalinimo I will welcome them.

if Islam is so important why are Somalis fighting each other over clan differences and not uniting as one community.

And Isn’t tribalism prohibited in Islam?

I’ll never forget the most social rejected clan (who are just as Somali as issaqs) the Tomal people.

The Tomal are considered to be an outcast of our community.
what’s funny they’re just as Muslim as any other Somali people. But because of their heritage they’re deemed as low class; being placed as the same position as Somali Bantus.

Modren genome have stated they share the same genetic traits as ethnical Somalis.
But because of the mindless Somalis they’re deemed below other Somalis and considered either an outcast or low class.

Just like other minorities; Tomal have contributed greatly to our community.
