In any wars, sadly minorities are targeted due to them not having enough power to fight back.
That's what happens when you have a small population, do you think anyone can abuse han Chinese who number 1.1 Billion like people abused Jews who were a mere 16 million globally?

Oh yeah if forgot about that.
The japanese were an industrial powerhouse invading a china who were stuck with shitty technology and just recently stopped using their old 16th century technology and opened up the world.
Even with the advantages Japan had though, they still struggled to take even 30% of china due to the chinese throwing wave after wave of millions of soldiers which outnumbered the japanese and eventually won. A small group like somalis who back then numbered only about 4 million or so would have probably gone extinct from such a campaign. My main point is that there is strength in numbers
