Every time a Somali runs for office, the far right’s hate train gets worse. They spin fear that we’re “taking over,” and their basement-dwelling incels go wild. Truth is, Republicans barely even cared about us before Ilhan came to power. We were a quiet minority, minding our business. Now, every time she speaks, they drag all Somalis through the mud. We’re 18 million people, yet talked about more than 1.5 billion Chinese because unlike them, we got pulled into U.S. politics instead of just focusing on business. Honestly, what have we gained from these offices? Nothing but racism and nonstop whining. Maybe it’s time to step back from politics and just focus on building wealth in my opinion.

If you think about it we only have ourselves to blame. Somalis are loud and outspoken which isn’t always a bad thing, but in the context of being a minority politician it probably isn’t a good thing either. Then you have Somalis themselves who will watch everything a Somali politician says and does and will criticize them openly which basically gives the racists ammunition. There are countless Pakistani politicians in the West who are “sellouts” but you will never see their community putting them on blast

If any other minorities thought like you the civil rights movement would of never happened and minorities would had still no rights in the west.
