The right wing groups there tends to focus in Muslims from M.E and North Africa not Somalis. We were flying under the radar. Im not saying she did this. Perhaps she accelerated our visibility because eventually we would no longer be able to just lay low. But not all representation is good representation. My issue will Ilhan is her politics like most western Somali women think they have the same protection as FBA and a lot of them do not like her either. And if Black people dont support you, you become a easy target for the right especially if you are a woman. It seems like they give Black men more of a pass. Aoc, Crockett, Ilhan etc are punching bags and there are no black leaders to protect them. America today is more sexist than racist.
I think Obama got help from marrying a FBA woman and he has jewish members in his family and was supported by the Jewish community. Obama is skilled enough to get people on the right to come to his side which he did in 2008. Trump crated an new group under Republicans and flipped leftists and centrists onto his side.
Ilhan imo and others helped him in a way. She is gutsy and brave but foolish like saying America is becoming the worse country. I am sure she heard this from the elite circles she is in. But she doesnt pause to think it sounds disingenuous coming from her. Then she alienated herself from Somalis and other Muslims for being pro lgbtq etc. This is the problem with the left. Obviously anyone has a right to critique her politics but my main disagreement is when Somalis themselves spew this rhetoric where she should stay silent and subservient she’s due to her own opinion and beliefs even if I myself don’t agree with it. Too much power is handed to her for being the first and it is unfair for her and us. We need more representation especially a proper conservative one since most Somalis are conservative. Where I live ever since there was defund police there had been a shortage of people doing the job. There are more guns, drugs and guess what murders. I've seen 5 shootings with one guy dying.
