Is djibouti a sign that there is hope for Somalis/somalia? 🤔

I never thought much about djibouti at all but it just registered to me Djibouti is majority Somali and it seems pretty stable and safe I meannn I never ever hear any crazy shit coming out of there

ffs it’s a level 2 on the U.S. travel advisory
that’s on the same level as Mexico and Peru, better off than Colombia at level 3 etc and obviously much better than Somalia (level 4 ‘do not travel’):wow:

the president is somali too wtf but apparently the tea is he’s a dictator… and clearly he ain’t doing much to develop the country up BUT at the very least it’s stable (or so it appears to be…)

now the last thing we need is to have that mf overthrown just for djibouti to become somalia/syria 2.0

I’ll be doing more research on this and making a thread why somalis need to invest in Djibouti asap it might just be the key to saving Somalia. the Somali populace needs evidence that a stable country with majority Somalis is possible and motivation to work toward it it’s lowkey too much work to focus on somalia with 100% effort

so my opinion is put full effort in developing wealth in djibouti and simultaneous full effort in stabilizing somalia

by the end of it the goal should be a developed and wealthy Djibouti and a peaceful (probably not so wealthy yet) Somalia

once this is achieved somalia and Djibouti can just be full trading partners akin to Canada/usa, singapore/malaysia etc etc

Wealth cannot be developed in Djibouti by Somali businesses as unfortunately the dictator in charge will not allow you access into the country unless you give him shares of the company.

To think that Djibouti and Somalia can work together for developmental reasons is laughable. Djibouti does not see Somalia as an ally. A strong Somalia = a weak Djibouti. Like many in the region, the elites fear Somali irredentism. Many Somalis have been turned away from Djibouti whether it be businessmen, regular citizens or refugees.

Before their dispute with UAE, they were massively involved in Somalia's politics. They also have tried to assassinate key political figures in Somalia.

Djibouti is a kingdom controlled by the family
the first president, who is the uncle of Ismail Omar, the current president. He will soon pass the chair on to his son, and the entire economy of the country is in his hands.

Politics wise helping djibouti wouldnt help the somali case. After all they are its own country and a good somalia would be their downfall. Plus we need to help ourselves tbh. Why build in another mans land? Invest in your own!

An interesting thing I learnt about Djibouti was that it only has a total fertility rate of 2.5. The 8th lowest in the continent. I wonder how long it will take Somalia to reach those levels.

Djibouti’s interests are best served when Somalia remains weak and divided. It benefits them if Somaliland stays in political limbo without recognition. It benefits them if Puntland remains engaged but never breaks away completely. It benefits them if Somalia continues to struggle under poor leadership. Djibouti profits from instability because it secures their role as the main hub for foreign militaries and trade.

A strong and stable Somalia would directly threaten Djibouti’s economic dominance. Until recently, Djibouti quietly supported Somaliland’s position. They shifted only when Ethiopia, their biggest client, seemed ready to change its stance. Protecting Ethiopia’s reliance on Djibouti became more important than backing Somaliland.

The only thing Djibouti needs is to open up for Somali investments imagine all the money in Nairobi the billions going to Djibouti instead.
I think investing in Djibouti as a Somali rather than in Nairobi is probably the most dumbest shit I've read on this site. Djibouti, like other Somali-populated areas, would be really aggressive towards those whos tribes don't reside in Djibouti. Djiboutian people are good people, but investing in an area where your niggas aren't known to settle in is some dumb shit. Same goes for Somali Galbeed, Somaliland, Puntland, and Somalia. Nairobi is really diverse and I can rest easy knowing my investments won't be "Unaka leh".

Edit: Djibouti is also a multicultural society. Not a Somali one***
