Iran sides with the GNA and Turkey in Libya

An interesting development in Libya.

After the Iranian FM, Mohammad Javad Zarif, visited Turkey few days ago, Iran announced its support of the Turkish backed GNA government in Tripoli. It is really strange since Iran's main allies, Russia and Assad regime in Syria, support the opposite side, the LNA and Haftar.

I think Iran is afraid that Turkey might go along the American harsh policies and agree to implement the US sanctions against Iran. So far Ankara refused to comply fully with Washington.

Iran's new stance might have positive ramifications for Turkey in Idlib, Syria too.

Geopolitics is a game of chess.

I also think Iran saw the writing on the wall. The Caesar Act imposes further US sanctions against the Syrian regime. This time punishing any entity doing business with Assad. The new sanctions are being activated this week. The Syrian pound is in free fall and the exchange rate has reached 5000 SP for one $1. Syrian regime used to mine and sell phosphate through shell companies in Lebanon. That venue is closed now. Lebanon itself is suffering from capital controls and political mayhem.

The Syrians living under Assad regime are facing starvation as we speak. Right now they are getting by eating bread. The Kurdish areas are increasingly under the similar situation. Only the areas under the Turkish occupation are safe since they trade in Turkish liras and their agricultural sector is connected to the Turkish markets. Around 30% of Syrians live in the Turkish controlled zone.

Russia can no longer help Syria financially as oil prices slumped and their economy has shrank.

Iran is weaked by the COVID-19 and understands it might end up just like Syria and Lebanon. Turkey is industrial and agricultural nation that has food production surplus. It is best to keep relations with Turkey in good stance in such challenging times. That's why Iran chose to side with Turkey on the Libyan issue. Before that Iran used to send weapons to Haftar. Not anymore.

Meanwhile France crying about Turkey
It's a loser's cry. France was heavily involved in supporting Haftar and his offensive on Tripoli.
The NATO meeting France is calling for to marginalize Turkey most likely will become a complete fiasco for Macron. The rumor is Turkey has prepared quite a thick dossier on France's violations of the arms embargo in Libya. The discovery of the mass graves in the Haftar controlled cities does not help France in a slightest bit.

Besides the US doesn't give rat's ass about what France thinks or wants in Libya. The Turks deliver results and that's what Washington likes about them. Right now the primary US objective in Libya is to deny access to Russia for building military bases there.

Sheikh Erdogan playing 4D chess against Euros and the Arab naago. :obama:

I hope he doesn't get forced into a seize fire situation, he needs to clear Egypt/France/UAE from Libya completely.

Erdogan said Turkey will stop the offensive and sit down for negotiations only after taking over Sirte and Al Jufra towns in Central Libya. They give access to the Libyan oil crescent.

The Russians are mining Sirte at the moment to slow down the Turks. The GNA couldn't breach Sirte even after several attempts.

Turkey is said to have completed military equipment delivery and troops allocation for the offensive. It is a waiting game right now with a lot of back door diplomacy taking place.
