South Sudanese men in Australia mostly marry within but a ridiculous number of them marry white and Asian women; a lot of the friends I grew up with are now married to Asian women -- and I simply don't understand it.

Did the Uber driver say he was surprised that you’re not looking for a white gf because you’re black? If not then why do you assume that? Indian men love whites so he might be surprised that you don’t show the same appreciation for whites as they do.

but south sudanese diaspora is smaller compared to west africans pakistanis somalis etc. and add to that modern day and globalization. so a portion will marry out.

Don't get me wrong, I would guess that around 90% of South Sudanese men are with Nilotic women, but 10% is still a very high number -- especially at this early stage.

Overall, a very tiny minority of our men marry out; the men that marry out are seen as cheap because the dowry for our girls can literally reach $80k.

In Melbourne, 25-year-old South Sudanese man Chol Goch was proud to negotiate and pay a high price for his new wife, Ajah Wuoi.

“It’s alright because that’s what I want. If I get her, doesn’t matter, I would pay a million bucks if I had a million bucks,” Chol says on Insight.

Ajah grew up expecting a dowry and felt more respected by her community after she recently brought the high price of $70,000.

“It shows how much he respects your family and how much he loves you so much because it’s not easy to give a dowry like that you know. But they have to do it, especially when you love the woman and if you want that girl to be your wife,” says Ajah.

Salpha Dut, from the same community, has been working 11 hours a day, seven days a week for the past two years in Hobart to save up for his wife who is waiting for him to afford a dowry of 250 cows before her family will let her move to Australia.

“Whatever hours I could get my hands on I’ll take it because I want to save up for my wife,” says Salpha.

Despite the hardship, Salpha doesn’t have an issue with paying a dowry.

“I don’t have a problem with it because that’s the price for a wife. My father paid, my grandfather paid, I have to pay for her because I would feel really, really bad to have someone’s daughter without paying,” he says.

Yeah, like you pointed out, it's inevitable especially considering the small population size of our diaspora and the high dowry requirements.

The whole saga is shameful; he could have had any woman in Botswana, but he chose a complete (and dull-looking) outsider to be the first lady of his Nation.

Assuming there is a God, I disagree about the lax judgement that Africans are apparently set to receive in the afterlife; I can't imagine that a just God would be lenient on men that gladly allow literal babies to die in the service of their greed and corruption.

There are other poor regions in the world, but Africa is a uniquely evil place, because there isn't a single example of an industrialised, advanced, wealthy and functional State in all of Sub-Saharan Africa.
