Ramla Ali is aiming to make history in being the first Somali to compete in boxing Olympics in 2020.
Brief background
Ramla Ali is a Somali boxer based in London and current African Zone Featherweight Champion as of 2019. She is the first male or female boxer in history to have won an international gold medal whilst representing the country of Somalia. In 2018 Ramla became an exclusive global Athlete for Nike. She won the 2015 Novice national championships in the England, the 2016 England Boxing Elite National Championships and The Great British Championships.[1] She moved to England from Somalia as a war refugee.[2] She started boxing as a teenager in an effort to lose weight. She has since helped set up Somalia's boxing federation in Mogadishu and became the first boxer in history to have represented Somalia in the Women's World Championships which was held in New Delhi, India in 2018. She is managed by Anthony Joshua. In 2019 Ramla Ali became one of the new faces of hair care brand Pantene.
It has been announced that Academy Award nominated, BAFTA winning producer Lee Magiday alongside Film4 will be making a feature length drama based on the life story of Ramla Al
She was one of fifteen women selected to appear on the cover of the September 2019 issue of British Vogue, by guest editor Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
