Not Shabab maybe, but any Islamist movement can subdue stand alone clans. Something Somalis fail to realize is that unity/collective/ideology always overpowers disunity/individual.
A force that is made of different tribes found throughout Somalia united on an ideology vs singular clans. Somalis are divided based on clan, but under the Islamist groups they are united upon an ideology. Makes you think doesnāt it? Is a clan based political outlook really the one to unite Somalis, a 4.5 based one?
And if push comes to shove who are the true potential rulers of Somaliaā¦without outside interference?

Godane must have had some kind of personality disorder. Somali psychology analysts need to go and study his old neighbourhood/upbringing to see what let him down to such a path. Didnāt he also refuse aid to starving civilians because it was being given by āgaalo agenciesā?
There was a video floating around a few years ago of his debate with a major sheikh in Burco in the 90s. He seemed to have done pretty well in that debate which shows he was an extremely intelligent man for his age and had a good grasp of Somali poetry/arabic.
When you add this to my first paragraph, it kind leads to someone with a high functioning personality disorder. I heard he had a personal paranoia over Somali religious elders as he accused them of starting Islamist movements and then abandoning the youth when the going got tough or for politics/tribe. This explains the name of his group as well. It may also explain his extreme control of his group.
