It circulated due to people congregating in a sauna. People were in close quarters. I blame the African continent for this, where it is endemic there. Straight Africans brought it to the west.
yes the disease spread from their private parts to their bodies, it is not far fetched.

There are now 550 cases of monkey pox in countries that that disease didn’t existed before. Mostly are found between gay males. 550 is huge compared to monkey pox spread in 2003 (40 cases). Each 550 can spread this to other gay males.
Why is it called monkey pox?
Monkeypox was first discovered in 1958 when two outbreaks of a pox-like disease occurred in colonies of monkeys kept for research, hence the name 'monkeypox.' The first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during a period of intensified effort to eliminate smallpox.
Why is it called chicken pox?
One is that it's from the blisters that are seen with the illness. These red spots — which are about 1/5 inch to 2/5 inch (5mm to 10mm) wide — were once thought to look like chickpeas (garbanzo beans). Another theory is that the rash of chickenpox looks like the peck marks caused by a chicken.

Monkeypox is endemic in more than 10 countries in west and central Africa. It was recently brought to the west by a British citizen who was visiting Nigeria in April and returned to London. From there, he had close contact with others and then it spread at raves in Spain and Portugal and Belgium through sex and at saunas through close contact. You're spreading misinformation.
Homosexual acts should be discouraged but to suggest this a "gay disease" is a lie. It was not a "gay disease" prior to May. It just happened to have spread at gay settings. You can get it by simply shaking hands with someone.

It was first found in monkeys over 50 years ago. People ate monkey bush meat.
