Industrial cities corridor Somalia

If Somalia was setup industrial manufactering zones producing steel, cement, assembly cars and medicine.

I believe north would be suitable compared to the south as the south more geared towards agriculture and finance. Imagine three of these cities being Somalia industrial manufactering juggernaut.
Hargeisa - Burco - Ceerigaabo
Very much possible, we have the raw iron resources so no need for import. However we need human capital thats educated people which can lead the way, experts in those fields aswell as investemt from the Federal government to kickstart industrial production. It all starts with ideas and initiatives from leaders with power. Right now we have a president going around with Rolex watches while his people are starving. Nothing to promote unity, corrupt politicians using the people money to enrich themselves. Same old qabil conflicts these odays need to step down we need fresh ideas we need progress, which happing at small rate.

Absolutely and it's already happening to some extent. Somalia has made progress in setting up industrial facilities in both the north and the south.

They set up an industrial cement plant in the north:
They opened up a cement plant in Berbera 3 years back

Various cement processing factories has been set up from it, under Somali Horn Holding Group of companies

And steel manufacturing plant in the south and metal processing factories in the north and south:
There is also metal processing factories in Hargeisa and Mogadishu
Remember the electricity company BECO i spoke about that provides most of the electricity in south-central of Somalia, they invested in a local steel mill/plant. Called SomSteel LTD 3 years back.

Your idea of transforming cities like Hargeisa, Burco, and Ceerigaabo into industrial hubs is absolutely viable. But we shouldn't ignore Mogadishu , Bosaso and Berbera both are well-positioned to be developed into Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Mogadishu is looking to undergo a transformation through a Public-Private Partnership model, with efforts spearheaded by the New Mogadishu Development and Construction Company (NMDCS) and essentially transform into a specialized economic zone.

The New Mogadishu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is aimed at transforming Mogadishu into a thriving hub for business, commerce and residential living. Designed to attract local and international investment, the SEZ is a mixed-use area that seamlessly integrates commercial and residential districts with a modern financial centre. This zone is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting Somalia’s economy, driving job creation and positioning Mogadishu as a regional centre for trade and innovation.

Residential

The residential area provides a high-quality living environment for employees, families, and professionals within the SEZ. Amenities include a mix of apartments, villas, schools, healthcare facilities, parks and recreational spaces.

Industrial

The Industrial Area is dedicated to manufacturing, logistics and export-oriented industries, crucial for job creation and economic diversification. The area will have warehouses, factories, logistical hubs, and dedicated transportation links to the port and airport.

Commercial

The commercial area serves as the SEZ’s central business and retail hub, supporting local and international businesses and includes office buildings, retail centres, hotels, cafes, and restaurants, catering to business and tourism needs.

Same with Berbera as an extension of the DP-world port development:

By leveraging each region’s natural strengths (agriculture in the south, trade and minerals in the north), Somalia could create a balanced and diversified industrial base. The infrastructure and investment groundwork is already being laid , now it’s about scaling and policy support.

For this to happen we need mass culture changes. Because we would have some idiots that would want office job instead of manufacturing. A country is as good as what it manufactures and

I still don’t get how some of you ignore the fact that there are already hundreds of processing and manufacturing facilities operating across Somalia and they’re staffed entirely by a local Somali workforce.

Take Somaliland/Waqooyi for example: they had 67 manufacturing industries in operation.

While 31 of them closed, 12 new ones are currently being launched. That’s a sign of resilience and ongoing development.

The NIA (National Industry Association) functions much like the SIA (Somali Industry Association), which has currently has around 40 active members , proof of a growing industrial base.

What Somalia needs isn’t a 'mass cultural change' , there’s no cultural opposition to manufacturing.

But everything is locally invested , there is no massive foreign revenue.. What’s needed is more investment and better capital mobilization to scale up what’s already happening. The growth is real , it’s just largely fueled by domestic investment, not massive foreign funding.
