The thing with black people in the US who are in BLM is that "black" generally refers to African Americans.
They will have no problem with Somalis joining, but do not expect them to march or have solidarity for Somali issues before their own.
As different communities culturally and religiously (VERY different) they can't relate much to us other than having the same skin tone, which makes things worse.
Racists not being able to differentiate is barely an argument, if a white person called you a sand then does it make you Arab? Of course not.
And by the way, the "white" identity is differentiated when the need comes for it. Context is key. If someone asks a white guy to specify his ethnicity past white, he will, with German or Scottish or whatever.
Key point: the black identity is viewed as this all-encompassing thing that supersedes all other identities, but that isn't the case. The Somali identity is a notoriously visible and strong one to boot.

Remember that it's the racists who wish to categorise people based on skin colour! Yes we can be considered black but we do not identify ourselves by our skin colour at all. We have nothing to do with those black gaalo, being the same skin colour might be enough for the racists but not for us. We have huge differences in culture, religion, and language.

I'm sure if the somali community faced something like police shootings and heavy discrimination which has been documented aka videos they would march , for the sake of the legitimacy of their movement .
