If your parents didn't swim to where you are now, what Diaspora would you like to be part of?

Most of my family came to Europe via Italy , my father worked there before the government collapsed, it was quite easy to get a visa back then .

I think at least half of the Somali population (first wave) in Europe were in Italy at one point when entering Europe .

never met or heard of a somali who went through the italian route, but then again im lander so that might have something to do with that. most i know who left pre-war ended up in yemen, sudan or the UK

Italian is so macaan, sweet talk a Halima in Italian and you’ll have her fathers number in no time :banderas:

speak for yourself lol, that coloniser tongue doesnt do much for me. i prefer spanish lol, especially cause the likelihood of a person of color speaking spanish is higher, no pink meat please.

I’ve always wanted to learn Italian. I could do either tbh, both are Romance languages. Spanish is more useful doe.

I'm bored and I'll start. I was born in Toronto and grew up there, and now live in the UK, so I have kind of a multifaceted diaspora experience, and won't talk out of my fuuto of places I haven't been. But the place I grew up in was a crime infested ghetto shi*hole, so its not fair to compare it to the nice part of london i live in now, cause there are deffo some ghetto parts in london too. But in general comparing both, I'd prefer London. But I'm for sure heading back to Canada mainly due to affordability, but Toronto pricing is going crazy up too.

So to answer, I prefer the UK, but I would love to be reer Aussie, they seem to be the most chilled and i visited my Auntie and family there, and the quaility of life down there is better than any place i've been, the vibes are good, the people are down to earth, and most importantly, crime is rare. theres a lot of african migrants causing chaos, but thats understandable cause they havent been rehabilated well yet. unlike western born zoo malis priveleged to be born in a rich nation but still wildin out, like some londoners knifing one another, and back home in toronto where somalis dying was so normalised we didnt even see an issue much.

answer away ! try not bashing places too much.
As a South African Geeljire I spent several months tahriib here unaccompanied, happy that I was far away from the chaos of Somalia , sighing with relief it was my only priority to be safe . But just like everyone else I had always visioned that I would someday be living in New York, Toronto , London and not in Soweto , many of us were kids back and some were straight from the baadiyo we would see big tall buildings and beaches with semi naked Latina women on TV the place was Miami but we thought it was Los Angeles we were actually watching Tony Montana lol
We would joke about getting these ladies one day, two of my friends actually did end up in USA though

but those dreams died with me long time ago , I put dedication and effort to integrate here, so I'm happy where I am now regardless of the circumstances I don't see myself ever going to the places I once dreamed of .

A lot of somalis came through soviet union as somalia was a ”socialist” country back then. I would definitely liked to be reer USA or reer Maple syrup because of the opportunities there I plan to move there aswell

I was originally born in Italy and so am a Italian Somali Diaspora, but my parents moved us to the UK when I was young, so thus a UK diaspora. But Italian = UK, nothing major difference, if i would pick one, UK by a small margin, cause Italians are more "outspoken" and there are more opportunity in UK then Italy

If any, i would love to be a Norwegian Somali Diaspora, imo, its way better then any of these European Diasporas. And it has a better living standard, good work and lifestyle. And way more safer then other countries.

But any country in EU >> USA (Healthcare and too loose in my opinion)

Religion wise, Middle East like Oman or Qatar, even Malaysia, best place to raise a child with that western passport.

But nothing beats home of Somalia.

Australia would be a better place than cold and depressing Finland. Or any nordic country ( for social and health care) except for Denmark (don't like the sound of danish). Canada would be ok as well. But for middle east either Syria or any gulf state except for Saudia for many reasons

you dodged a bullet, i love italy for vacationing and love the men who compliment somali beauty endlessly with their thick accents, although id never look twice at a colonizer. but they are so racist to africans over there, much more so than other europe. throwing bananas at black soccer players is normal there

Damn, I live in Italy... It isn't that racist here like you said, some people are nice, others are racist sh**t holes, but who cares? :damn: I speak fluent Italian because they'd teach us Italian when I was in lower school, and in high school, they'll teach us English so, all together I speak 3 languages, Somali, Italian, and English.

I'm planning to move to the Netherlands since they have a better school system, the school I go to, one teacher who teaches me would go on her phone throughout half the lesson then tell the class to shut up and do the work though we didn't know what the f** to do FHGHFJK!!! You're probably thinking, why not move school? There is no point since I'm almost finishing school.

Anyways, I would teach myself at home since the teachers at my school (most) fail to do their job. Then I would help my classmates with their maths work, science, history etc. So my point is Italian schools are decent when you're not an incompetent.

Italy isn't racist like you think it is, most are friendly.

these are the official numbers, so we were bound to land in one of these when our parents fled somalia/land, with the probabilty being higher at the top. the numbers look off tho, the UK seems way too high, and the US too low. Canada as well seems low, i felt like somalis were legit everywhere back in toronto, more so than london tbh, but then again london is a huge place and i havent been everywhere yet.

the UAE somalis are the most quiet lmfao, how they more than the canadians and swedes but we hear nothing from them?

We are not really quiet. We just are more likely to be holding the somali fort on the arab side. You will find us talking arabic most of the time and in arab places.
