People are called reverts because in barzaq everyone acknowledged Allah and was muslim so they are all technically Muslim up until the age of discernment.
That is why a child isn't held accountable no matter there background if they die before reaching an age of understanding.
Most at that point are made into something by there parents and some start looking for themselves.

A murtad is one who has accepted Islam once he has reached the age of discernment and then decided to leave it later on
