This question has been answered so many times. In so many other threads. It’s getting boring now.

If Siyaad Barre had not held the country together by force for 21 years, we would have had the civil war much earlier than in 1991. Somalia would not have survived another election like the one in 1967.

There are and were many people responsible for the state of Somalia. From leaders right down to the low Iq individuals that sustain them, turn a blind eye to the short comings of their tribal leader but prepare a 10 page essay for the wrongs of the other guy. So what even is the point of this post but maangaabnimo.

Its all Siad Barre's fault, yes Caydid did f*ck shit up but it was Siad Barre who set us up for failure.

I agree with people are only annoyed with the actions of other clans and outright deny the corruption coming from their own side. In order to move forward everyone needs to be help accountable.

That's rich coming from the first few African country that had democracy and first nation in the continent to have a peaceful power transition.....

If we continued to follow the Constitution with equal representation we would have had no civil war...

Hard to swallow pills.
the anti siad opposition had 30 years to form an effective semi-democratic governement, instead they destroyed everything.
Siad Barre made many mistakes but he was 100% right when he Said that rebels would destroy the country. That's exactly what happened.
Usc proved him right

MSB was the best thing to happen to Somalia , idgaf . When he was in power we weren't qaxootis , when he left we became qaxootis
Not just that.
Back in the days Somalia's reputation in the world was basically " poor but with a lot potential"
Right now we are considered the worst country on earth, no other Country in recent history experienced anarchy like we had.

Somalia as a country never had much potential, it's a very resource-poor country filled with tribal nomads. Even in the democratic era in the '60s, the country was unstable with insanely corrupt leaders, and the Government killing hundreds to suppress voters from certain parties.

.
The Kacaan took this up a notch and it became predictable what would happen next. An African dictator being toppled in a newly formed country is not a new thing.

Everything Somalia is going through is part of the painful stages of nationhood development that every country went through. Ours just came a lot later than others :manny:

What is the source of this quote? Anyway the fact that somalia was corrupt has nothing to do with it's potential. I could say Nigeria for example has a lot of potential because of it's resources despite corruption.
What Somalia is going through is unique in Africa. Even the worst countries that had the wors civil wars like Angola or Mozambique recovered in a few decades and still had some kind of functioning governement . There is no other african country that has a govt that basically only controls the capital and nothing else. The only nation that comes close to us is maybe South Sudan.
Look at Nigeria they had many coups, their country is f.d up in many ways but at least they have a functioning governement.

Somalia would still be a third world country even without the civil war
There is a difference between failed state and third world country. Our neighbors in Ethiopia and Kenya are also 3rd world countries but they are much better than us in terms of stability, economy etc

True, I meant in that a lot of somalis act as if we'd become the new U.S without the civil war. We'd still be in a disappointing situation, just not as tragic.

With those sort of standards the majority of the world is a disappointment outside of some rich nations.

It'd certainly be a lot better than what we have now
