Article 8 of the treaty sets out detailed, Italian-funded financial reparations to the tune of $5 billion, paid over 20 years, to finance infrastructure and medical, educational and agricultural projects. These include about 2,000 kilometres of road linking Libya's eastern and western borders, and a railway network linking some Libyan cities. Furthermore, article 10 obliges Italy to return all artefacts and historical documents stolen from Libya during the occupation. The treaty also spells out future Italian-funded projects such as establishing the Libyan Academy in Rome, scholarships for Libyan students in higher education and retirement pensions for Libyans forced to fight alongside the Italian occupiers.

If you could choose the terms of reparations between Somalia and the Italian government what would it be?

Personally, I would keep the same terms as Libya but a larger amount of money. After all, Libya was only colonised until 1943 but Somalia was until 1960 and arguably more severe.

I would also add a clause demanding Somalia and Italy play a friendly football match once every year. The match will be held in Rome. We can name the friendly series after Giorgio Marincola, which will also raise awareness.

This allows the squad to improve and the split profits from the match will boost the revenue of the Football federation.

They built a railway and highway system for them. I do not think included in the costs were the pensions and the scholarships.

Also, I am very sure the Italians have some valuable artefacts from Somalia. That would be excellent in a future museum of history.

That Libya reparations were made during the height of Libya golden age under Qadafi rule, Western nations will only give you reparations if your nation is strong and want to do business with you.

Libya straight up embarrassed Italy. They not only apologised sincerely but opened up the chequebook for the Libyans.

The US told Libya to pay the Lockerbie bombing victims' families reparations in order to be accepted into the int'l fold. Libya says okay and still got reparations from the US for their victims, one of whom was Gaddafi's adopted daughter.

The British have not even apologised for colonialism let alone paid a cent. Their victim list is too long. Whereas Italy has only a handful of colonies that are happy with some development projects.

Also, Somalia cut ties with the UK in 1963 and refused to join the Commonwealth. I am very sure they do not want to apologise to us about anything.

I think since the reparations will be from Italy's pocket, they get to control the projects, as long as it is transparent. Somalia and Italy should agree on where the money goes and Italy manages the projects as their atonement.

This is not a reparation. It seems they want to colonize libya again. It looks like what china is doing, soft power. I want somalia completely free from any of our colonizer countries.

The football match will improve the team and be a net positive.

1. It gives Somalia top-level football experience. Not many African countries can get regular friendlies with European teams.

2. The money from the matches will boost the SFFs coffers. Imagine the money from ticket sales, tv revenue and sponsorship.

3. Also by naming it the Giorgio Marincola series, Italy will be forced to remember the sacrifice Somalis gave to rid them of fascism.

4. By having to play in Italy, the football team will be able to use Seria A training facilities at least once a year.

There was no strings attached. It was not a loan.

The terms of the agreement was Italy builds and Libya keeps.

We also need to have a Truth and Reconciliation Commission that investigates Barre's crimes and those of the warlords.

My mantra is that Afweyne regime crimes were the crimes of Daaroodism ideology. If there are reparations then southernJabartis,excluding MJ, have to pay MJ and Haawiye. Thats obviously unworkable.

Now as for the North

SNM already humbled the northernJabarti allies of Afweyen forced them to sign peace on SNM terms, and they understand that southernJabartis cannot help them recover any of the territories they lost over several centuries
