I've always wondered what would happen if the Mahdist state, Emperor Iyasu V and Mad Mullah fought in the same timeline (1880s -1920s) because they all had the exact same interest, agendas and are similar together culture wise.
The fact that the Mahdist managed to mobilize several dozens of Muslim ethnicities inhabiting in modern Sudan, Eritrea and North Western Ethiopia without problems and almost dismantled the Abyssinian state, drove the Pashas of Egypt and the colonial powers away and the Abyssinian emperor Lij Iyasu V secretly sent arms to Northern Somalia against the colonial powers until he was overthrown by his people showed there is a strong indication they would all unite without problems.
If the dumb Malis didn't backstab and fought against Mad Mullah to set up a British colony that enabled the creation of Ethiopia, if the dumb Beja tribes didn't cause internal unrest within the leadership that caused the collapse of the Mahdist state and if the Abyssinian monarch didn't find out about Iyasu V being a Muslim and they fought in the same timeline, there would've been a huge empire or a union stretching from Southern Egypt all the way right down to Northern Kenya (there were no borders back then).
I'm 100% certain that this would happen.
The rest of the islands in the South Red Sea and the gulf of Aden belongs to the Empire.
The top arrow shows a demilitarized zone imposed by the Madhist so Northern Egypt doesn't attempt to take the South in the near future. The arrow on the bottom shows a Zinzaabari region that was taken with the advice of Hawiye navy general to secure the strategic point of the longest coast.
