Their upbringing/culture. If you put an African in a non-African environment without African or with minimal African influence, they will thrive. Otherwise, they will be lazy, unambitious, uninspired, violent, angry, unhappy (with their resting beach face), unable to control their emotions, think education and speaking English well is for "white people", etc (their default state). Its no surprise that the Blacks who do well in the North America are primarily the recent immigrants (and children of immigrants) from Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, and others whose grandparents/great grandparents were open to learning about the people who conquered them and then took over control of the country post-colonalization. They were not the ones throwing rocks and cow dung. They played the waiting game to gather as much expertise as possible. Obviously they were unable to advance the country due to majority so they unfortunately had to leave, draining their homelands of their smart brains. Most people you associate with should not be Black/African/Pakistanis/Arabs/etc from lesser cultures but rather Asians/whites.

You're right, our ancestor's were embarrassments for signing protectorate and colony treaties with Europeans and our people are pathetic in the current day for relaying on the U.N for food rations. There's always tomorrow though. We can't reverse the sins of the past but we can strive for a brighter future that our decedents can thank us for. The establishment of a federal government in 2012 was the first step. Our next step is annihilating the threat of Al Shabab and any other form of militant salafism in Somalia. After that, we can address the unfair burden women face in Somalia & across the african continent. There's not much you can do to remedy this issue when there's an active insurgency in place.
