Ideal Urbanism

A certain thing is missing from the equation with Africans and taste. It's like we're in the dark ages in terms of basic expression of aesthetics. Nothing organic or inspirational comes out. That shit cannot be taught. It has to form from some type of movement.

A newfound rejuvenation is needed. The first step is to fund institutions for culture, arts, and traditions. Once you have those developing, you'll see inspirations go into other fields. If you keep neglecting those, all you see is a hodgepodge of shambolic cities looking like a crackhead that put on whatever he had around him.

It looks nice. In Europe.

Forming research groups for urban planning, design philosophy, architecture, and form is essential for developing countries, factoring cost-effective constructions with materials, longevity, taste, and quality. The results will and should go in diverse ways, drawing inspiration from the contextual matters of land, culture, history, etc., instead of dragging direct copies of other places. Room for variation exists as well.

I definitely agree that mindlessly copying and pasting these European designs would be ridiculous. We certainly should approach this with the understanding that one must:

Absorb what is useful. Discard what is not. Add what is uniquely your own.

We could use local materials, local art inspired aesthetics, different pillars and African colour schemes

These designs are okay.

but it makes me feel like I’m stuck in a box.

Not saying I’m cluster phobic or anything.

I prefer the new world suburban designs better.

It has more of a freer and open sight.

Yeah, but American style suburbia isn't financially sustainable; the attendant sprawl lengthens utility lines; and makes life a lot more inconvenient

I live in the U.K we have a lot houses that has designs that are too clustered. It makes the parking too difficult for some people to park.

It makes the neighbourhood looks ghetto and completely outdated in design.

Not to mention they’re expensive to live in.

Which leads people to have a housing problems for groups who couldn’t afford a home.

They’re not that good in a modern sense.

Le Plessis-Robinson certainly doesn't look ghetto or outdated; it looks classy, warm and vibrant.

@Nilotic

Your pictures were great just too luxurious and clustered for my taste.

That's obviously a matter of taste, however, the use of parks, gardens, town centres, boulevards and recreational courts/facilities would provide plenty of open spaces.

I do think that we should develop our own land reform programs that constitutionally enshrine the rights of individuals and families to plots of land; Africans should go a step further and construct an entirely different financial system to the one that is in place in the West and Asia...

..Community own banks would issue interest free loans for mortgages -- ensuring that housing is affordable, modern and aesthetic

@Nilotic what do you think of colorful cities? somals are colorful and cities back home are colorful. they use bright paints and bright colors for corrogated steel. nairobi looked gray compared to it.

The careful and organised use of colour can make a city feel alive; the plain white aesthetic that the West ostensibly adopted from ancient Greece was actually very colourful, and that was the case for other civilizations at the time.

Our African cities should make use of our own colour schemes
