....the establishment of a Horn Of African union/alliance be it political, militarily and economical for all the member States in that region to develop and advance our countries and people. In Europe, France, Germany and Britain fought hundreds of years and were sworn enemies during that period. Post Second World War, Western Europe (with the threats of Communism) had a hard look at itself and decided that unity (E.U & NATO) rather than war would benefit and deliver them permanent security, progress and wealth to their States and citizens. Today Europe is wealthier and more secure and they have absorbed millions of refugees and more desire to legally and illegally migrate to them while risking their lives. Why can't we learn a lesson from them?

Kenya, Somalia/Somaliland, Jibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia spend billions of $$ of their meagre budgets on arms intended to be used on one another. The overwhelming majority of the people in these countries live below the poverty line, they cant access proper schooling, basic health services, electricity, even drinking water and child mortality rates are very high. Unemployment is rife where most of the youth in these countries dream of escaping poverty and reaching the shores of the Western world to live better lives. They want to reach the same western countries who swallowed their pride and decided to bury the rivalry with their adversaries and instead implement friendships and alliances. That is the foundation of their current status that attracts our citizenry to escape to. Why can't we emulate them and cease the militaristic rivalries for the benefit of our countries and people? Should we always be in perpetual wars, live in abject poverty and expect foreign aid?

Most HOA countries would disagree. Djibouti, Somaliland, Eritrea, the Somali regional government in Ethiopia all are vying to have a united bloc. The incentives are manifest. Djibouti and Ethiopia have already commenced with some ambitious development projects.

The good thing is Somali foreign policy isn't dictated to by the residents of Sspot. Even Farmajo realises this. He is preparing to travel to Ethiopia as we speak.

@AussieHustler you make some good points there especially on regard to the success of the ECSC and it's successor (The EU) and how it can be replicated for the HOA region.

With that said, by being an ethnic Somali yourself and proposing your ideals to us in an open Somali forum, it feels like you believe the onus should be on Somalia/Somalis to move on (even though you didn't explicitly insinuate that) and not Ethiopia, Kenya, and other countries in the region.

So it wouldn't be surprising for us Somalis to feel strongly about this when it is a known fact that Ethiopia and Kenya are colluding to destabilise Somalia (although i recognise Somalia too has itself to blame for some its problems as well) such as Kenya using Jubbaland as a proxy/buffer state by supporting known troublesome groups that attack minority clans (Raskamboni movement) to Ethiopia using a western trained/funded force (Liyu) to attack, kill and rape (pls read the horrific accounts of rape and break perpetrated against somalis here: https://www.voanews.com/a/kenya-ethiopia-somali-civilians/3827963.html) innocent Somali pastoralists as well as adversely influencing the recent elections in Somalia by bribing and intimidating politicians to vote for someone who would benefit Ethiopia.

The dream of greater Somalia is long gone, however, if Ethiopia and Kenya treats their indegenous Somali minority as citizens and not pariahs as well as Somalia stabalising (hopefully without the need for faux "helpful" foreign interventions that actually cause MORE instability) then sure i don't see why a geo-political union can't be formed between the countries in question.
