I prefer Greco-Roman and Christian art over Islamic art

When I look at Islamic art it's largely symmetric patterns in buildings, paintings, writings, ornaments etc. But I do not see Islamic sculptures, figurative paintings, decorative murals aside from calligraphy. I'm not saying it's ugly there's tranquility in it but I don't wonder about it as I do other arts. I feel like Islam limited artistic expression.

Drawing anthropomorphic shapes or animals is haram, that's why there's lack of sculptures and paintings.

Also much of Christian art is pagan in origin. The iconography of Jesus and the virgin Mary is based on the Egyptian gods Horus and Isis.

There's no need for statues, sculptures or murals of people. Islamic architecture is still a lot more beautiful without it

Compare it to christian architecture and you'll see how uncreative and ugly they are.

Its tricky. This is an argument of secular vs Religion. It can't go together. I guess if you insert the word 'civilization' it no longer becomes faith bound or even Islamic. It is just a civilization influenced by faith of Islam.

Regardless of origin, it's meant as a form of expression. The good thing about art is that it's translatable across cultures. Why did early Muslims not adapt the same methods as early Christians to spread the religion?

Memorization is a function of brain faculty. Easier one than the other actually. The art of letter writing is a more complicated function of faculty that is accessible from the artistic, crafty side of the brain. Forget if its left or right of the brain

It could also be that visual representation is easier to interpret so it was shunned. I would have to ask someone with intimate knowledge of Islam. Is that you Basra?
