Because there is no good reason to own a firearm. If the law lets me own one then it will let a robber or a murderer own one.

The self-defence excuse is also BS when you realise that most gun crimes in the US are due to legally owned guns and that a major sources of the guns used in Latin American gang crime are imported from America.
