Go Somalia for couple months trust me your Somali will polish up real quick. Or just speak to the people in your household in Af Somali (especially if you still live with parents).

There's a reddit group on r/Somalia that meets up to learn Somali language. They have a session today.

I suggest listening to Somali radio it's a good source of knowing the difference between formal/informal Somali as well especially any news radio

radio isn’t good way to learn. It’s just one way dialogue, you can’t learn that manner. Conversational format is the answer as you hear more vocabulary

Go to somali masjid if you’re in the west. Join somali social media Like Facebook that’s how I learnt how to write somali.

Talk to elders at community gatherings and you'll learn a lot; also, go back home once or twice a year, if you can.

Alhamdulilah. I used to listen to poetry and the news with an older relative. The more I listened, the better my understanding got. Anytime I heard words I didn’t know, I would take a mental note and discuss the meaning with my family member. You can always playback the audio at a slower speed to hear everything better. Learning to read the written language also helped me with pronunciation. You can learn it well if you learnt Arabic letters in dugsi. Then, I would test the new Somali I acquired at random times.

It takes a conscious effort to speak it if you’re used to speaking a foreign language. You might not get the results you want right away but persist and in shaa Allah you’ll get there.
