Such a professional armed forces but don't use them to defend their borders.

We use militias to defend our borders because that is all Puntland can handle right now imagine if we came with the big boys..
Most of these troops are for show.Somalilands navy and aviation forces are non existant while the ground forces are simply reintegrated clan militias.Somaliland wont use their soldiers as they will get a public backlash and hence be in jeaporedy of losing the next election.Thence they send border militias which nobody really cares about.

And yes we have a functioning Navy.
Navy is not effective. Boats with soldiers is not a proper navy and would hardly be effective without being equipped with missiles, torpedos etc.
The navy just is patrol boats with machine guns stationed at Zeila Berbera & Maydh. But they do they job when you hear from them
Its because of blockade on Somalia, Somaliland with its limited democracy has potential to become a geopolitical heavy weight in the region. Democratic nations always work to the best of their consistuents hence they advance rapidly.This is why its obvious that Somalia will stay like it is until we implement a democracy which threatens the existence of ineffective politicians. Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea are one of the most authocratic countriesa and hence are one of the most least developed countries.With widespread poverty, just look at djiboutians who have never seen a war yet with the money raked in from its geographic location it hasn't been able to help its people.
Personally if Somalia doesn't have one man one vote by 2021 I'm 100% sure Somalia will regress heavily with corruption etc.

Don't worry about our navy, we will get top of the line equipment for the navy when the UAE air and naval military base is finished in Berbera.. They will also contribute in patrolling the Somaliland sea until we are able to.

our navy are doing good already . UAE is also going to give train our navy and give us modern equipment .

Somaliland has seized more than 51 Yemeni boats and an Egyptian ship for fishing illegally in its waters, an official has told the BBC.
Admiral Ahmed Osman said coastguards had also arrested more than 250 fishermen who were on board.
This is the biggest arrest ever by Somaliland's coastguards, trained by Western states to curb piracy and illegal fishing off its coast.
Illegal fishing has depleted fishing stocks along the Somali coast.
Correspondents say years of illegal fishing by foreign trawlers devastated the livelihoods of many people, some of whom then became pirates who attacked vessels for ransom.
Piracy in the region has declined in recent years following the deployment of a multi-national naval force.
Last month, the EU Naval Force provided training and equipment to the Somaliland coastguard.
