I have devastating news to share subhanallah

I was taking an Amtrak train from Boston to NYC when I recieved the news last night that a relative of mine had committed suicide, subhanallah.

she was a young girl in her early 20s from Kenya. She went to school in South Africa and had recently come back to Kenya. She comes from a huge family, her father has 3-4 wives and over 20 kids. She didn’t grow up around her parents and was quite neglected as it is hard to balance that many families, but she still somehow grew up to be a upright and bright muslimah.

She had been struggling with mental health and a deep depression for awhile but was always told to put her mental health on the back burner and it caused her MH to deteriorate.

yesterday, her younger siblings found her hanging from a belt in her room. AUN

it reminds of another case from Minnesota where another young girl killed herself too. Her body was found in a river and people had thought she was killed but she had transferred her money to her moms bank account and sent out a death note to her brother the day of her death.

We so often say that suicide/depression/mental health is a western concept but yet both there girls were muslim hijabis who didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, one of them had never even stepped foot into a western country either.

That's sad AUN. I wish I could have spoken to her. Taking amtrak is also sad but not nearly as the suicide of course.

If she was neglected by her parents, it's important to call it out, hopefully their guilty conscience will bear heavy on them for the rest of their lives.

This has to have had a significant effect. AUN. Seems like dad was more focused on having kids than raising them.

true. But also if u do research for example in india a new pesticide was introduced into farming and increased suicide rates up.

yes indeed, typical women form of suicide is either poison, pills or throwing themselves from height. The first two are most common.

What a sad sad situation. May Allah have mercy on the deceased, forgive her, grant her loved ones patience and magnify their reward.

This dunya can be too much to handle sometimes. Anyone can get to a low point in their lives. It doesn’t help that the whispers of shaitan can push us to commit self-harm as well. I hope no one is blaming themselves for this tragedy and they take care of one another in this difficult time. They should lean on one another as well as their faith and try to not keep everything bottled up.
