There is a deep rooted inferiority complex within many Africans, specifically certain groups and not all.
The stereotypical features associated with being a specific type of African, ie wide nose with flat bridge, thick to full lips, projecting profile or prognathism along with tightly coiled hair is regarded as somehow not beautiful.
This is the bottom line and what many Africans with these features have internalised themselves unfortunately.
The only cure to this is that these groups practice self acceptance. Pointing fingers at others, or expecting sympathy and acceptance will never be the answer.
Europeans have their own complexes (thin non existent lips, flat bodies, extreme paleness, lank hair, quick aging, jowls etc), just like any other group. Which clearly highlights the need for every group to not only have self acceptance but to practice mutual love and respect.
Horn Africans (Cushites and Semites) tend , to be very self assured. This is considered strange by many who have come to expect self hate from dark skinned groups especially Africans, or the very least some self doubt as with Europeans. Our inherent self acceptance is perceived as threatening by Europeans and other non "black" groups, as well as perplexing and frustrating by Africans who don't have this trait. Hence it is explained away as a result of our proximity to "European beauty standards".
The truth is that Horn Africans have had these traits and a deep rooted culture before there was such a thing as "European beauty standards". It's a shame that having a healthy relationship with your culture and ethnic makeup no less is considered problematic. A testament to how broken the modern world really is unfortunately.
