I feel envy towards older cities

I learned that Laascaanood isn't even that old, a little over a hundred years. For whatever reason I just assumed it was older.

I wish my city had more history like Mogadishu or Berbera.

It's Berbera, Saylac, Xamar, Maydh, or Barawe right?

Those are the ones that always appear on old maps.
Opone (Ancient Greek: Οπώνη) was an ancient proto-Somali city situated in the Horn of Africa. It is primarily known for its trade with the Ancient Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Persians, and the states of ancient India. Through archaeological remains, the historic port has been identified with the city of Hafun on the Hafun peninsula in modern-day Northeast Somalia.[2] It is possible that it corresponds to the Land of Punt as known by the ancient Egyptians during the Old, Middle, and New Kingdom.[3][4][5]

Only notable somali cities that go back pre-islam are the coastal city states which you pretty much all mentioned lol

@canjeeroiyoshah for some reason I can't quote your post but yeah xaafuun was also a city that was on the maps a lot. I think it's near the most eastern part of Africa right?

Edit: on the maps post 1800 it's xaafuun/hafun. On maps from the 1600s and before it's called Opin(Opone).

Edit 2: Never mind I was thinking of a different places it's call Ras Hafun on old maps, Opin was a different place way more South.

So on most of the maps it's Ras Hafun, but on some it's listed as orfini, orfui, orfin. Have you ever heard this name before?

Different people wrote it differently (Middle Eastern/Persians, Europeans, etc, etc.)

was mainly Hafun or Opun

Being a nomad is cooler than relying on trade with foreigners to survive. Your ancestors had the ultimate freedom in life to do whatever the hell they wanted.

Don't stress bro & never forget your geeljire pride. It brings a smile to my face knowing how free my ayeeyo & awoowes were compared to cadaan surf's madow adoons dhegacas traders & unhygienic city folk getting exposed to a new plauge every other decade. Truly a blessed history.

On the Brightside, It does have history before that. There are ruins of cites that were abandoned given that our people would settle in places at times and leave. Ancient cities exist all around the Hergeisa, Burco, Erigaabo, and LA. It's just not coastal and that is why the cites fall and other ones are rebuilt from their ashes in areas close but more strategic.
