Why would you care about the destiny of others? They are grown ups and could make their own decisions. If I was a Somalilander, I would’ve been screaming for ictiraaf too. What’s there to be reunited with? A bunch of warlords representing their clans in parliament and whenever they require bribes, they call for parliamentary motions to impeach prime ministers and presidents. Amisom is guarding the presidential palace and without their presence, Mogadishu will be the next Raqqa or Kendahar. Every region is self governing with a unique federal system where each maamul goboleed has its own army seperate of the “national army”. No federal state in the world other than Somalia has such a deal. Who will they unite with?

Somalia needs to be fixed before they are asked to join because it doesn’t make sense to ask them to join a system so broken that it will make South Sudan look like a successful country. Once Somalia is on its feet and there is a genuine reconciliation among the Southerners and a girl born in Garowe can become governor of Mogadishu and vice versa, the economy is booming and the menace of Alshabaab is eradicated, they will come back home voluntarily. Till then, xaarka aanu iska meeydhno.

They'll give it up eventually but the reason is so that they get the best deals when Somalia gets back on its feet. They want a 50/50 deal on everything and to have all their demands met otherwise threaten with ictiraaf and not working with Somalia.

It reminds me of how Quebec demands a lot from Canada and threatens them with ictiraaf. Ironically they get many special policy treatment and get billions of dollars of Federal transfer almost every year after the tax is spread to the provinces that can't cover annual budgets.

For Quebec its a major win, likewise for SL. But Somalia won't fall for its shenanigans. They might get a bit more autonomy but I don't see them getting special treatment.

I've seen your many pessimistic posts about Somalia, but let me tell you Somalia is on the come up and things are improving in many areas. Yes, security isn't the best and AS are still a threat but that's soon ending as well. Somalia is making ID cards, making a new currency, passing important legislation and agreements, revenue & taxes are being collected, troops are being trained among others etc..

Within a decade, I believe there will be a strong army and gov't fully functioning. We need strong security,laws,regulations and institutions before we try to do things too fast otherwise we'd be in turmoil.

Signs of improvement are happening now, if you don't see it then that's up to you.
