I abandoned my brother and my sister during a fight

BJJ is good but wouldn't recommend it on the streets were rules are pretty much non-existent

Can't do BJJ on concrete or similar and you clearly can't use it if you're against multiple people

Judo is a lot more practical and ends badly for the other guy especially if you're on concrete

I'd recommend Muay Thai/Boxing although it's much harder to find a gym that is primarily does Muay Thai in the West
If the fight gets to the ground, wouldn't some knowledge of BJJ be crucial?

I've seen a lot of street fight vids and a number of them end real bad when one guy knows what he's doing on the ground

Yh it’d be good to know BJJ but if one of his friends comes out of nowhere and boots your skull point blank then it wouldn’t matter how much BJJ you know

Point is you never want to get on the ground in a street fight but if it does happen you best know what to do

This is why all men need to learn combat sports at some point in their life. Imagine if this happened to you and your wife instead of your siblings. She would leave your sorry ass and find a real man. Take this as a learning experience and scrape up whatever money you have right now and go sign up at your local boxing gym.
All combat trainers will tell you not to fight against a person with a mindi. They’re no joke, only special forces/army get trained on knife defence and that information isn’t widely known. He shouldn’t have ran and left his siblings, just co operate since his sister was there she wouldn’t have been able to out run the men even if they did run. And fighting isn’t an option

Brazilian jui jitsu for ground game, karate for bone density and legs, boxing for powerful accurate punches.

Plus despite what people think, the geeljire slim build, extreme bone density and tenacity. We are built for fighting. Many get shocked when they get into a fist fight with a Somali. The look we have does not match up to the strength and power. That is if you have the heart to face your enemies with full force.
A lot of that isn’t applicable unless in trained environments. Try submitting a man via Brazilian ju jitsu on a concrete floor while he has back up , you’re gonna get your head stomped. Wrestling and boxing are good. Karate is an ass martial art. Most people who know how to fight avoid them at all costs, especially when up against knives. The benefit or preserving your pride and ego isn’t worth it

It was all applicable to the real world. You have no idea the level of advantage a trained fighter has over an average Joe.

They come into our dojo often and ask to spar. The average person has soft bones that feel like butter under powerful blows.

Also use your brain man. Everything is context. Why would you fight street thugs wielding knives by yourself in the first place?

If I was that way inclined, I could easily take out a bunch of them trust me. Have trained with swords and fighting sticks for years. But I am fortunately a responsible adult who does not engage in fights with idiots.

The best self defence is often de-escalation or to just run.
