The other thread asking what we'd name our sons got me thinking about how original and pure Somali names are literally dying out as more and more new parents give their kids Arab names. What makes it worse is many don't name their kids Arabic names that have some relation to Islam like Maxamed...

Why would you want to change your name that's your whole identity.You'd be erasing your dads whole lineage.

And what are we working with now? Is it something common like Mohamed, Hersi, Mahmoud, Abdirahman etc.

Yeah that’s the whole thing i am planning on. I am going to cut off my family from my life forever and won’t look back again.

my current surname is long and common, and I want to use 1 name and use a traditional name instead. I luckily have a traditional first Name.

Oh ok that's understandable. I've always liked names like Daud, mustafa, Ilyas,Malek,Adam, Sami etc

yeah my maternal family ain’t shit and at this point I’m done because I’m mentally exhausted and have a burn out from arguing and defending myself. For my own wellness and peace I’ll go away.
