HSM visit to America focused on lifting of arms embargo

That article is made by an anti hawiye Puntlander. It should be laughed at and not taken seriously. Like he has a say on the arms embargo being lifted lol
He’s made some valuable points though, I also agree the arms embargo shouldn’t be lifted with how many militias roaming around the country, until those militias are disarmed or absorbed into SNA.

If the arms embargo is lifted Somalia will be the hunger games.

Okay this is a first time source so I have no idea how reliable but it’s likely we have the arms embargo lifted on Friday. There’s a motion on it then. HSM will give the speech tomorrow to the security council, will be broadcast live

I don’t see Jubbaland and maybe Southwest State being liberated without arms embargo being lifted. Hopefully weapons don’t end up in the wrong hands

Ethiopia lost lots of aid money doubt they have willpower

I made this point to @Kabtaanka Ethiopia is bankrupt and UAE isn’t willing to fund operations unless their allies are happy (like currently Madoobe has to take over Gedo for JL operations). Which looks unrealistic right now

EU is no longer willing to fund the failed AMISOM now called ATMIS, there’s a massive deficit in funding already. US isn’t willing to give air support to SNA

Good timing with this going on.

Should give a kick up the backside to the UN. Somalia will collapse to Shabaab if the arms embargo isn’t lifted.

We don’t have much time. It takes months to years to get military equipment and train on them. With less than 1.5 years left this means we’re running out of time

What's the immediate effects with the removal of the arms embargo, especially in the fight against AS?

It's not like Somalia's finances will all of a sudden go up and pave the way for the gov't to buy advanced weapons (that cost a fortune compared to our current resources). Not to forget how there already are exceptions for AU, EU, US, Turkey etc as we speak, which've provided most of Somalia's current arsenal.

Unless Russia and China or some other country decides to 'donate' or give us weapons in exchange for something else, I can't see any major impact in the war against AS. I could be wrong tho.

“At tomorrow’s meeting, Council members may reiterate their strong condemnation of the continued attacks perpetrated by Al-Shabaab and express support for the federal government’s renewed determination to combat the threat posed by terrorism and violent extremism in Somalia. They may call on the Somali government to accelerate the implementation of the STP and the NSA as a decisive factor for the ATMIS drawdown. The Council members are expected to renew the ATMIS mandate prior to its 30 June expiration. At the time of writing, Council experts are negotiating a draft resolution proposed by the UK, the penholder on Somalia, to renew the ATMIS mandate.”

the only thing that will happen as AMISOM mandate going to be increased, whoever thinks Sadaq John and HSM walking into New York together to get arms embargo lifted is going to happen are dreaming. This is from the security council report website.

The Ethiopians won’t put troops on the ground but they’ll give you weapons and that’s all you need.

I don’t think madoobe is taking gedo most of the airports there is controlled by ENDF, the UAE tried that by trying to get him and Ethiopia to be Allie’s the Ethiopians didn’t want that.

We don’t have air support. This needs to be sorted as quickly as possible. Currently Turkey is being accused of breaking the arms embargo because it was operated by the SNA in the past offensive. That needs to go.

Also I was listening to a general and he said we aren’t allowed to import ATGMs and some technical things like metal barriers that would take out Shabaab VBIEDs, that way protecting bases.

These would be a game changer

And what weapons are these? Only thing they could provide are the same ammunitations and aks everyone else does.

Not much help. Even our illegal military importers can provide better equipment than them
