Do you think we would have gotten arms embargo & debt relief without America support?
Our biggest mistake ever was allying ourselves with Russia during the Cold War & it costed us dearly.
I dont think u are wel versed with this mater intialy during civilian gvt they tried hard to get help from usa in militry training but they werent wiling since west was backing heila selasia this was before the couoe of minigistu.
Somalia at the time civilian gvt was forced to go for soviet since they were wiling to assist. By the time 69 siad came to power somalia already was been trained by soviet and given aid money. Siad bare continued the policy. But after coup of ethio by mengistu since he was comunist he kicked usa out.
Than usa was left with no aly in region.
Later 77 war hapened soviet beef with somalis later made us to go for usa but usa was desperate to have friend since ethio was pro soviet but this time they were wiling to help compared earlier when we asked for help. To counter soviet union usa and nato backed somalia but at that time were only wiling to give defensive weapons unlike soviet who were giving ofensive weapons to ethio.
Becis usa and nato thought if we end up having ofensive weapons we reclaim ogaden region which than drags more war which usa wasnt intrested in
