Mohamed Hassan Shekh Mohamud, son of Somali President Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, was involved in a traffic accident in Istanbul. The accident occurred at noon on Thursday, November 30, in the direction of Eurasia Tunnel exit Zeytinburnu.

Yunus Emre Göçer, the motorcycle rider with plate number 16 AFL 804, wanted to slow down his motorcycle and stop on the side of the road while driving on the coastal road. Mohamed Hassan Shekh Mohamud, son of the President of Somalia, who was driving in the same direction with his car with plate number 06 CD 4581, hit the motorcycle from behind.

The police took him in for a hearing, but released him right afterwards. The legal process is still ongoing.

However, if he carries a diplomatic passport, which could be the case as a family member of the president, then has diplomatic immunity and can't be charged for any crimes.

Turkish civilians are protesting his release, if the news goes nationwide, it could tap into the negative anti-foreigner sentiment already growing in Turkey, which is hosting more than 5 million foreigners.

Man this could be bad for Somalis. I saw two videos go viral of Somali tourists acting poorly in Turkey, and now this?

Hopefully HSM doesn’t try to protect his son and allows Turkey to prosecute him. Or else the growing hate for foreigners in Turkey will be shifted towards Somalis
