idk about you but i'd doubt my abilities so hard if if I was admitted thru affirmative action. Constantly telling myself that I made only because of it, and therefore feel inferior as a result as you put it.
You said you don't see a problem using emotions in judging instead of logic and reason, so no point in continuing this.

I never said that. I also don't see how my answer contains any emotions, but we can agree to disagree.

And like I mentioned earlier, we don't have AA, so if I got a job or get into grad school, it would be due to my outstanding merit anyways.:sass1:

That's why I request a different doc if he's black

Even Ben Carson? (Lets disregard his political views for second)

Well, you'd have to be convinced through your feelings since stats, or logic wouldn't convince you.

:rejoice: Alhamdulilah for no Afrimative Action in Canada. It doesn't make an equal playing field, it just makes things worse. Only to be used for qualified professionals in hiring to an extent but never in education.

I've seen somali immigrants, who had a hundred barriers but overcame them and got in with scholarships. Working hard and developing the right mindset, culture and environment is the way to get there otherwiset they should not get in, simple.
Let's ask our resident doctor what he thinks? @dr.leorio

I don't know all the details of affirmative action but I do have an acquaintance that works as an admissions counselor. Apparently its a broad definition encompassing ALL minority/marginalized groups like @Desert Flower mentioned. This means even white women benefit from this due to their gender making them a minority group by default. Some people even say they benefit more than the African Americans and other minority groups do, which I believe it was originally created for. Once again I'm not 100% sure but I believe people should be tested based on cultivated skill, hard work and willingness to learn more than anything else.

I don't even check the African American/Black box when I fill out my school/work applications. I check "other" and write in SOMALI in all caps. I would write in Geeljire instead but that would just confuse the folks reviewing my apps. :icon lol:
