They teach about what Cushitic and Afro-Asiatic is in history textbooks in high schools in Somalia. My parents are vaguely familiar with it already.
would they know what it is, or look at you like you're crazy?
That is not true sxb, I went back home last year and used to help my nieces and nephews with their homework, most schools in Bossaso and PL in general use the British curriculum GCSE and it was considered the best, they tought them about world history and nothing about African history, believe it not I my self first heard about Cushites at Somalispot,Never knew such thing exits untill I joined this forum,it is sad but most Somalis have no idea about Cushites and would never entertain the idea that we are the same ethnic group as Ethiopians.
When it comes to my parents my mom believes being Somali while my dad has a soft spot for Arabs and considers them our ancestors, I would say 85% of Somalis generally believe they are from Yemen originally and never heard of Cushites.
My parents don't claim any bogus unscientific categorization label whether that be black or white.
They just say they are Somali, you don't need labels.
